If it's OK with you folks, I'll stick some of these reports on the 'festivals' section. Has anyone got a few pics I could use?

Barely took any at all...Shame I missed the fantastic sunset on Sunday night - I think Tort might have got one...

Well I had a wicked time.

Camped in Family, didnt get searched whatsoever. No crime, no worries at all.

Hid my open cans of beer every time I walked through, no-one even bothered.
.........................
That said, I had a brilliant time, mainly because of all the friends I met up with there, old and new.

same here! lucky i guess. feel bad for the bad experiences people had
Toilets were a dream come true compared some i have been to. Fusion in Berlin was horrific from day two in the piles of poo dept. BC toilets were cleaned pretty regular?! but yeah i think was lucky to be in family camping with a bunch of wrong 'uns nn we all got on famously

Trust me, I own every record he played and as good as a DJ I am, fading between tracks when you are throwing stuff into the crowd is a good trick.

And yes the pre-mixed cds were mixed crappily as well.

ha! i thought this too... didnt stop me dancing like a loon to outer space yoooooo got the love etc but still. bit cheeky if he was cheatin!

Editor : My report was originally on efests but only in a discussion thread over there, so feel very free to put my thoughts up here on the main site :)

ETA : arrr! I see now that you've already done it, no worries though :)

You might??? possibly want to add a note about some folks going to the Big Chill as exiles, on revalidated tickets from the Sunrise Celebration in Somerset, cancelled by floods at the end of May. If the reports themselves don't make that clear enough that is.

This Tom Middleton thing : we were only around for about 4 or 5 songs and we loved it. But we were drunk so didn't notice technicalities ... :p

There's been so much written already about BC, good and bad, my fourpenneth isn't going to matter much.
I just want to add here that I had the most brilliant time :D We were with good friends all weekend, including Tort and strange-fish for much of the time.
Our group was parked up in the live-in vehicle field, near the water and not far from the loos. I managed to find clean loos all weekend.
There is a lot of negative stuff on the BC forum, stuff like people being scared and intimidated late at night. I never found anything like that but maybe I was just lucky ( or it was me that was scarey  )

All the security staff on the gates were really friendly and helpful. Sorry for anyone who had a bad experience but there really were some lovely people working there.

We took our own drinks in with us every day but on Friday we also bought a couple of jugs of elderflower majito too. No one checked my bag at anytime going in and out.

I can't remember half of what I saw but I won't ever forget Leonard Cohen, I can't believe I was never keen on him before. Others that did it for me were, Son of Dave with Martina Topley Bird when they got moved to the main stage on Friday. Alabama 3, The Bays and Heritage Orchestra and Camille. I tried to like Beth Orton, Rachel Unthank and Roisin Murphy because my friends said I would, but I didn't quite get any of them :(

If the same group are friends are going back next year, we'll be there too.

Tom Middleton is brilliant! I am shocked and horrified to discover that he might have been using a (badly mixed) mix cd......can this be true?

Really glad to hear you had a brilliant time shirl :)

I'm sorry if I've been a bit negative about the BC on this thread (I guess it's cos I used to REALLY like it in the early days) - I appreciate that there are still lots of good things about it - like the lineup, and at the end of the day, a festival weekend IS what you make it :) If you're with a bunch of mates and there's some good music then it's going to be

Hmmmm, glad to see a few reasonably positive reviews creep in 'cos I had a fantastic time. I spent most of the festival with the Big Chill Forum crew and they all had enormous fun. There will always be something to moan about at any festival and I agree some stuff was too expensive, but overall it's a great festival at a lovely location. Some bits like the Disco Shed were as good ot better than you'll see anywhere for fun, enthusiasm and spirit.

BTW Tom Middleton always plays off mixed CDR's now. My crew who know him said he's quite happy to have learned his craft and now play his tunes any way he likes.

A short review cos I am still on holiday and writing this on my phone. Had a fucking great time, but it was so expensive. Best bits were Roisin Murphy, Norman Jay, Tom Middleton's Classics set (my highlight), Leonard Cohen, Bill Bailey. Pics later, love ya xx

Well, speaking as someone who's never been to the Big Chill before, I had a brilliant time. Didn't see a duff act all weekend, although I am an easily pleased country boy who doesn't get across the water to see live stuff often enough.
Low points - that bloody hill, the wasp that decided to crawl up my leg at the Cider Bus and sting me multiple times, bit pricier than other comparable festies, rubbish drugs (apart from the spacecakes, they did the job :)), occasional bit'o'rain, not much happening after hours, the aforementioned rubbish, losing my firestaff
High points - Mr Cohen of course, Mr Scruff, being pleasantly surprised by Camille, the presence of the Cider Bus, ADF Soundsystem, Fujiya and Miyagi, relaxing in Sunrise, Bill Bailey, spicy mexican veggie burgers, the sunset on Sunday, the general friendliness (I got so many hugs off strangers on Friday, for some reason), my replacement firestaff
Probably won't go next year if the Big Green is back up again, we'll see how the money thing works out. If cash wasn't an issue I'd definitely be back, though.

Mmmmmm unfortunately it seems you have to be logged into facebook, I will try and find alternative free hosting (Flickr perhaps) to allow non-facebookers to see them.

Meanwhile William and Tort should have a look if they can.

It was all worth is to see Jilted John play Kiera Knightley Eat Your Dinner

We were high on mushrooms and it was just the funniest thing, folks were stood about open mouthed, folks were wetting themselves laughing, just ACE

It appears to be the only thing NOT on youtube

:)

The only bad part for me was all the Kidz leaving millions of fucking NO2 cannisters and balloons all over the shop. "Leave no trace" it wasn't this year :(

High point for me: Agnostic Mountian Gospel Choir on Saturday afternoon :)
Oh - and the Kiera Knightly song

Same as the Stone Circle at Glastonbury. NO2 cannisters must be the easiest thing to take away and dispose of properly.

BTW Tom Middleton always plays off mixed CDR's now. My crew who know him said he's quite happy to have learned his craft and now play his tunes any way he likes.

You mean he puts a CD on, then stands behind the equipment? Does he pretend to DJ, or just dance around a bit?

Wonder if that principle would work for bands. "We've learnt our craft now, so we'll play one of our CD's 'any way we want'?

I'm quite surprised he's happy for it to be public that he doesn't do any mixing. If I was that lazy, I'd keep quiet about it.

He just plays with the EQ's and the little knobs.

I think I'd be very bored, but each to his own.
