Best time to hit the 'Reduced To Clear' section?

the shop down the road from mas has tried to jump on the polish foodstuffs bandwagon only there aren't enough people from that region in this precise area so he's often got loads of out of date polish grub going cheap. Never know what it is except vaugely- if its in a yogurt pot its probably yogurt etc.

Do you think any real afficionado of knockdowns would actually tell you when their best stores did this?

They want the best choice for themselves! ;) :D

i'm hoping their need to boast about a bargain may overcome their desire to protect their sources.

I have a freezer full of Waitrose snacks such as 'red pepper & bean empanandas' only 3 in a pack and they are not exactly big but £1.49 rather than £2.69 & 'mild & sweet corn fritters' £1.49 rather than £2.99 think there is 6 in there. I bung them in the oven when folk come back for drinks.

I've had my best hauls at Co-Op and Waitrose. It's always such a pleasure getting in a Waitrose shop on tramps buffet. My local Co-Op very often has stuff discounted but you have to be careful as often the yellow sticker is deceptive - only 10p off or somesuch. But when you get the good discounts it's very satisfying. I tend to buy lots of "taste the poshness" type stuff from tramps buffets and freeze it.

An organic tramps' buffet may be enjoyed round the back of Whole Foods, Kensington High Street, W8.

The amount they chuck out, especially meat and fish, is dazzling.

Why do you think I have this subtitle?
Used to get some awesome stuff from out back of this healthfood shop in Sheffield. Can't remember the name though.

My local Tescos doesn't start properly marking down until at least 8.30-9pm. Before then they may do a bit, but it's frankly derisory reductions like a pork pie from £1.30 to £1.20.
Our tescos is shit for this, I frequently go in just before closing and it's rare I get any bargains. The great bread giveaway of a few weeks ago is a one off.

It's a bit hit n miss really. We have two large Tescos nearby.

In one I've great bargains on Saturday afternoons. The best reductions are new product ranges, Finest ready meals and 'City Sides' that would never sell at the normal price. Good for work lunches though, I got shitloads at 50-60p each.

The other one I sometimes call in on the way home from work and only recently finished the 20 odd packs of cheddar I got for 39p/400g before Xmas.

I also like to spot a cardboard sleeve in the tramps, it's like an invitation to find something far more expensive to slip into the reduced sleeve.

With all this austerity and benefit cut's it's getting harder and harder to get decent woopsies. I know all the regulars in most of the local shops now and they're ruthless. Some of the shops are now hardly reducing as they can often shift most of it well before the final knockdown. Tough times folks. My freezer is nearly empty - it's only ever stocked from the woopsies
