best film about a city?

Was it "Berlin, symphony of a city"? That's about a "day in the life of" Berlin, but it was filmed in the 1920s.

That's the fella. The 20's was it? I'd always imagined it was pre first world war. Still, lovely film. Why haven't I heard of Berlin Alexanderplatz? German mates have been letting me down there. Will try and get hold of it.

To be fair, parts of "between the wars" Berlin were virtually unchanged since the mid 19th century, so there probably weren't a lot of visual clues.

It's worth it. 15 hours of excellent "modern history" drama. I'm surprised your German mates hadn't clued you in, as I've noticed that German friends are usually very quick to get you to watch anything directed by Fassbinder. :)

Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul by Fatih Akin and Alexander Hacke of Einsturzende Neubauten introducing the musical acts is engrossing - however, i've never made it to Constantinople (as the Mighty Giants would have it), so can't talk about how representative it is of the city. but it looks and sounds tremendous to me

Die Zweite Heimat made me want to live in Munich in the 60s, and maybe shoot pigs through into the 70s.

Hang on, can you give me a link to the film to make sure we're on about the same one? Because i'm starting to suspect i have the wrong one.

Twin Town

"Dylan Thomas said Swansea was an ugly, lovely town" "I'd call it a pretty shitty city"

Nah, i was thinking of that crap liverpool gnagster one released last year/early this - it's so shit i can't recall the name, but i do recall turning it off. Bog standard young lieutenant wants to take org over but must defy his...BROTHER...to do so. Lots of well known faces. Absolute piss.

Can't be worse than one of the worst films I've ever seen: The 51st state, in which Samuel L Jackson comes to Liverpool to flog an imaginary drug.
