BBC3 Axed

All the stuff worth watching would fit on one channel anyway. You could have another one for repeats - job done.

Good job they reported it otherwise I wouldn't have noticed,,,,!

I wouldn't notice any channel going anymore really, i just go through the sky guide till i find a progamme to watch. never really notice what channel i'm watching.

Monkey Dust was the last programme I watched religiously on BBC3, otherwise I can't say I'm too distraught about the news.

If they're still forking out the cash to make the BBC3 garbage, how much of a saving do they make by not broadcasting it, and making it online only?

they've still got £25m for programmes. Sticking things online is easier, requiring fewer people and so lower costs. They'll probably dump Family Guy/American Dad, which cost a fair chunk, and pay rates to appear in online shows tend to be lower than the same fees for broadcast TV. And then they'll just make fewer programmes. Probably.

I don't care much for the repeats, but I hope brand new episodes of Family Guy will be shown elsewhere on the Beeb

I was a bit pissed off when I first heard this idea floated, but then realised I haven't really enjoyed BBC3 since about 2007. Also, a talk I went to the other day was discussing which major American news channel, on the scale of CNN or Fox News, will be the first to take the jump into being online only. Whether it'll be a wise move in the long run only time will tell, but it's definitely the way TV is heading.

Of course, this is all probably part of the longer term game plan to abolish the license fee and have the BBC as a pay per view online only service. Easier to start testing the model with more niche channels that Daily Mail readers won't miss, but young people will be more likely to pay for for niche content.

when I hear unfunny comedians bleating about it I just hear twats moaning about the demise of their meal ticket. It's the same as NIgel Partingers death scream being more the wail of an archers actor wondering where the mortgage payments are going to come from..

Where will i learn about how to hunt britain fatness teens.

For some unknown reason i had real hopes when this channel was launched but rather this than bbc4

I'm of two minds...

On the one hand, they did turn out an average of one good show a year with a budget less than 10% of BBC1's. (And 1 doesn't have 10 good shows in a year) I submit: Monkey Dust, My Life in Film, Bad Education, Pulling, Being Human, Mongrels, The Fades, Nighty Night, Pramface (well, the first season), and The Mighty Boosh. Little Britain wasn't half bad at first too, but that sort of thing wears thin extraordinarily quickly.

On the other hand, the schedule is full of reruns and imports. If they just kept the original programming, there's more than ample room on the other channels to kill some reruns and put that in.

What I don't understand is this: They're doing it to save money, but they claim they'll still make things and put them online. Isn't most of the cost in creating the television, not broadcasting it?

I'm pretty sure all you BBC3 naysayers aren't the people who BBC3 is aimed at, I'm not particularly keen either and think most of the comedy is crap but then I'm 41.

Snog, Marry, Avoid on the other hand is TV gold

Apparently, I am not the target audience for BBC3 either - I am 56 - but I watch it a lot. I watch Eastenders on there because 7:30 is usually too early for me, and they routinely repeat it on BBC3. Yes, I know I could watch it online, but my broadband is slow, and my laptop is tiny compared to the telly, and I don't have any speakers for the laptop either. So, basically, I want to watch my telly on the telly, in most cases!

I also like things "Don't tell the bride", even though that has become less interesting now that they are always trying to use couples where the chap is a twit who doesn't give a hoot about what his fiancee wants and/or couples where said fiancee is a stroppy git who wants everything their own way.

I don't remember ever watching BBC3 when it was on telly, but it does seem to be producing some excellent comedy recently. I watched episodes of The Young Offenders and Man Like Mobeen back to back last night, and it's difficult to pick which is better.
