BBC3 Axed

online only 'the BBC has learned.' Odd phrasing...shame. I'll miss all those repeats of Family Guy

That's a bugger. Along with channel 4 its one of my favourite channels for shit reality TV e.g sex and suspicious parents etc

being human was beeb 3 was it not? also that Shades thing. The rest of it was crap to me. but you know this will just be softening up for cuts in programs I DO like.

Sooner or later they will work out how to make it really hard to access iplayer without a license. Pin code or the like

Yup. It's a load of shite and no mistake. Worried about the future of BBC4 though.

Although the whole idea of a 'channel' is becoming increasingly irrelevant. The BBC can still break new comedy etc by putting stuff on the iPlayer or late night TV or whatever. A couple of films, some hit-and-miss new comedy, repeats of family guy and an occasional home for early Saturday evening Rugby highlights does not a channel make.

Plus it's pissing off Jack Whitehall so it must be right.

A lot of Family Guy/American Dad repeats and a load of sub par comedy imho

Oh right, well I have even managed to get bored of watching those blind drunk so it's not loss.
Just makes me worry for BBC4 as that is pretty good.
My secondary worry is that they will start putting some of their BBC Choice / 3 shite on BBC4

Four should be safe, it was the original extra channel, delivering the artsy stuff they should be showing as a 'public service', but dont want to put on 1 or 2.

only four successful transfers to the 'proper' BBC in ten years (Being Human, Torchwood, Gavin & Stacey and Little Britain). Not enough, really.
While not exactly supporting BBC3, why is a move to 'proper' channel (by which I assume you mean BBC1 and BBC2?) the sign of a successful show/channel? How many have transferred from BBC4?

It's the same thing with shows moving from BBC2 to BBC1 - channels can have their own identity without simply being feeders for the 'bigger' channels.

Torchwood was shit as well. I say this as a person who watches loads of crap sci fi.

Didn't Spike from buffy turn up in it for a bit? that was weird

The original extra channel was BBC Choice, mostly knocking out BBC 3 shite with a remit to get just enough culture and art in for it not to be ITV 2.
This is what I worry will become of 4.

quite right, 4 was originally Knowledge.

cos everyone gets 1 & 2, always has. The same shows will (or should) get much bigger audiences, so they're worth more, and fund themselves (and the rest). What do you think the beeb is? A public service broadcaster?

There was one or two alright things on bbc 3, but its not exactly the greatest loss to the world.

Exactly what a lot of people would say about BBC4 (or BBC2 or 6Music for that matter!).

Again, I'm no big fan of the channel (though the Family Guy/American Dad repeats are handy for late night "I can't bothered to watch anything else" TV), but I'm pretty sure BBC3 does have a lot of other fans - do they deserve to lose the channel they like over any of the others?
