Bait film about Cornish fishermen - "one of the defining British films of the decade"

It's ok, I've worked it out.
The landlady is played by Firky

Is that for real  oddly enough I thought her face was vaguely familiar but I didn't recognise the name when it came up on the credits at the end.

Just been to see it this afternoon, I knew there was this thread but I didn't want to read it beforehand.

Thought it was great, really different way of filming, I had no idea how it was going to end :D

I have a ticket for the David Lean cinema for a couple of weeks to see.

Keep the local arts cinema alive in the cultural wasteland that is Croydon, after all

Well this looks interesting

Cornish film-maker Mark Jenkin’s breakthrough feature is a thrillingly adventurous labour of love – a richly textured, rough-hewn gem in which form and content are perfectly combined. A refreshingly authentic tale of tensions between locals and tourists in a once-thriving fishing village, it’s an evocative portrait of familiar culture clashes in an area where traditional trades and lifestyles are under threat. Shot with clockwork cameras on grainy 16mm stock, which Jenkin hand-processed in his studio in Newlyn, Bait is both an impassioned paean to Cornwall’s proud past, and a bracingly tragicomic portrait of its troubled present and possible future. It’s a genuine modern masterpiece, which establishes Jenkin as one of the most arresting and intriguing British film-makers of his generation.

Bait review – one of the defining British films of the decade

Is it because of the merge that this is acting like a brand new thread to me? All posts marked as new and my place lost etc.
Glad it's only two pages!

Thread called 'Bait' in film forum about a film called 'Bait', with an OP beginning "New film, about a Cornish fisherman displaced by incomers", with links to the official website, a review, and an embedded trailer.

Yes, ripe for confusion :D
Most people use the 'new posts' feature so a zero effort title with just one word really is not enough to be a 'meaningful' description.

Where's the mystery of thread titles gone? Do they all have to be obvious Ronseal titles?
The rules have't changed in decades and they're there for a damn good reason. Those 'mysterious' thread titles you like so much often end up with confusing multiple threads on the same topic being spawned, which leads to more work for the mods who have to tidy things up after. That said the rules have always been more relaxed in the general forum and there's still plenty of those 'mysterious' thread titles to be found on this site.

Well, I finally got to watch Bait this afternoon. Fortunately it came to an independent cinema in an adjacent county.

I was sooo looking forward to it but, what can I say... I walked out after 45 mins or so. I really, really disliked it.

Depressing in the extreme, cringeworthy stereotypical characters, some very ordinary acting (with a few notable exceptions, thankfully) and the old-fashioned film effect everyone was raving about? That was novel for maybe the first minute, thereafter it was simply an irritation.

I could go on with other complaints about it but, as I sat there watching, I was baffled why so many people enthused about it. It's not even filmed or edited well. The Emperor's New Clothes kept springing to mind.

I am very disappointed.

However, I have to say that a certain (ex?) Urbanite played far and away the most convincing character in the film and did so extremely well. That, and the fact the cinema ticket only cost £4, were the only positives...
