I've been in it off-solstice. I remember a very high concentration of pony tails. There is one pub!

Right, I've had my logistics team working intensively on it and their conclusion is: we should meet in the one pub. There is one pub!
There's a National Trust car park but not sure if it will be available for solstice.BUMP!
I'm thinking of doing Avebury this year, though I'm not great at standing for long periods and my joints are a bit fucked. What I was wondering is whether you can get close to the site by bus or even driving? Also, I'm guessing it looks a bit less 'managed' than Solstice at Stonehenge?
I'd probably just take a taxi if it was me, but in theory you can book a Wiltshire Connect bus (on demand village service you book via app) to Bishops Cannings and get the big 49 bus from there.I was “thinking about” going to the Barge for the Solstice festivities there. (? Wednesday night?) Not sure how I’d get to Avebury from there, but open to ideas.
The Barge is in Wiltshire. Do they have taxis?I'd probably just take a taxi if it was me, but in theory you can book a Wiltshire Connect bus (on demand village service you book via app) to Bishops Cannings and get the big 49 bus from there.
Only pub I've been to that's inside a stone circle. Had a decent burger then went and sat in the Devils Chair for a bit. Very nice.I've been in it off-solstice. I remember a very high concentration of pony tails.
Not for years now. Camping has been pushed up onto the Ridgway/Sanctuary and is increasingly restricted.if you get in early enough you can even camp in a bit of land at the back of the national trust car park, it was free a few years back, gets very crowded though. Failing that there are many other places to park within a 10-15 min walk to the stones. Last year i parked at the Barge at Honeystreet (pub) which is always buzzing on the eve before - had a few ciders then camped on the hill on the Wansdyke then dropped down for the sunrise at West Kennet Long Barrow - much more mellow scene than the Avebury stones. Just depends what sort of a scene you want.
The one on the right looks remarkably like you!
Went with Mrs K a few months back and was impressed with the food. Good value and genuinely tasty. Would love to be there at solstice one year..Only pub I've been to that's inside a stone circle. Had a decent burger then went and sat in the Devils Chair for a bit. Very nice.
