Athletics - Running and Jumping and Throwing and stuff!

No, I think he's still going to take it, he's just trying to get enough of a lead that, once his 15 second penalty is over, he's still got a chance to come out in contention for the medals.

Like an F1 driver getting a lead ahead of the pack before coming in for a pit stop.

e2a: right, obviously this is now a fairly redundant post

He's a 5k runner so is going to push himself till then, split the pack, and still have a chance for silver while bro wins

if he doesn't take it he gets disqualified. maybe he is going to take one for the 'team' his brother and race him to the line.

who knows!

I doubt it, he's got more than 15 seconds over the rest of the race so there's no reason he can't still be aiming for the bronze.

I actually run this sort of distance a fair bit, and a 15 second break can give you a significant bit of extra sprinting power if you need it later on.

e2a: stop for much longer than that and you're fucked...

ah, so having a nice 15 second rest before final sprint then?

yeah i've just twigged that gap! good for the insider info so to speak!

I was wondering what effect that sort of a break would have on his body. Presumably he'll run on the spot or do some stretches or something?

I would think you'd run on the spot, or something to keep the blood flowing and the muscles awake.

That's what I was wondering. I think if I had to stop, that would be it. Is he allowed to just stand by the finishing line for 15 seconds then step over it?
There's a penalty box you have to take it in, but that would be fucking brilliant if he did that :D

Apparently the brothers have got in trouble in the past for one waiting for the other to catch up so they can cross the line together :D

Great stuff. They're all coming in really pleased to have taken a place. Bloke in 4th raised his arms. Kiwi blowing kisses to the crowd for coming 11th. Looks a bit like the decathlon spirit. :)

Lovely to see that. Triathlon is a hell of an event, anyone who crosses the line is a fucking superhero as far as I'm concerned.

For my own amusement, I'm gonna go and do a sprint distance triathlon (750m, 20km, 5km) this afternoon I think. I'm a lousy swimmer though so I might die.

Get back to us when you've finished and let us know you're time (assuming you don't drown) :D
