Port is pretty much served in any old glass here 15- 20cl ,at least in the cafes I frequent . If it's mixed with tonic in the summer it's a longer drink.I thought I'd be a little posher at Xmas and bought what I thought were port glasses from eBay. Nobody else bid, so they were £5.50 for the three, including the postage. Except they're a bit smaller than I expected. Well, quite a lot smaller. I am trying to moderate my drinking at the moment, it's true, but it seems like I'll be doing shots of port after dinner.

That's because your hands were smaller back then.
I remember being surprised when I went to the Port Wine Institute in Lisbon and they served the port in 'normal' wine glasses.
It's the wagon wheel effect.
They're sherry glasses.
Port glasses should have a bigger bowl that you can cup your hand around to gently warm the port, and be wider to allow a bigger surface of the drink exposed to air for maximum aroma.
(But in all fairness you can drink whatever you like out of whatever you like, use a soup bowl or a vase or a mug or a thimble if you like
Same here. Smaller glasses for sherry/port. Just refilled more often!!
That’s a great place . I first went there decades ago after a heavy lunch . Had as many free samples as possible , a few paid glasses and staggered off outside into the glaring sunshine . Propped myself up on a wall to get my bearings and looking over the wall found myself looking down and down and down over the river triggering an acrophobia attack. Decided to get a cab .
First time we were in Porto before we lived there, we did a similar thing. By lunchtime we had to go back to the hotel to rest.
