Are the rolling stones sh*t?

I just looked up Jagger on Google images, to see what he looks like nowadays.... Fuck me, he could be his own Spitting Image puppet!

Edit: Just found his original Spitting Image puppet. He does it no justice :D

Never much of a fan. Was told they put on a good show and I should go and see them. I saw them maybe 3 times, including black tulip tour. I was never very impressed.

I thought about this question for a while and played some of my favorite songs of theirs in order to make a better judgement.

Well, as it turns out actually yes they are shit and I was just taking an awful lot of morphine at the time. Which to be honest explains very many things in retrospect.

They were the first band whose name and logo I drew on my school bag when I was about 8 or so. I love them.
Uneven quality at times but the run of LPs from “Aftermath” to “Goats Head Soup” is brilliant. After that it gets a bit patchy but there are occasional flashes of brilliance like the whole of the “Tattoo You” LP, bits of “Undercover” and even “Voodoo Lounge” has some gems. If you’d been going so long, you’re entitled to some off days.

They started out as a fairly uninteresting blues-rock band, developed into one of the truly great bands for about 8 years, then have had a very looong tail as mostly an uninteresting blues rock band (with occasional decent songs even in the tail). 8 years at the top is more than almost anyone else though, so by any real measure they aren't shit.

I heard them at Murrayfield in 2018. They were stunning.

Mick is 76 and was bopping around the stage for over two hours... I wish I had half of his energy. :)

eta - not good enough for me to have remembered its name though. The video was just the lyrics writing themselves across the screen I think.

Even when they were way past their best they still had moments, Thru & Thru from Voodoo will always bring back memories of Sopranos for me, and there are a few gems like that on almost all their later LPs, just one or two, but adds up to a helluva setlist/back catalogue.

the links are all dead, but this thread from a decade ago has some leads to some late-period bangers

Gimme Shelter is extraordinary. It would all be worth it just for that. killer b is right that every now and then they still put out a passable single. There was one a couple of years back that was surprisingly good - stripped down to the basics.
Streets of love off A Bigger Bang?

I was never a fan but always thought they were ok and better than the Beatles but I just didn't listen to their music at the time.
Now I occasionally hear something I like, ask who it is and it's often the Stones.

Saul Goodman I thought that commenting unfavourably on someone's looks was just a thing that awful 1970s comedians did.
