The film's set in the 40s or 50s, but could be the 30s, and could have Shelley WInters in it and could have tennis in it, but the tennis could be baseball or football or anything

For all we know, it's not even set in America

Horror, probably 70s, colour. Churches are involved, and death. There's an evil possession spirit thing going on characterised by a distinctive hand gesture performed by the possessed character. Touch tip of thumb to tip of little finger, then to ring finger, middle index, repeat creepily. That's about all I can remember.

Is this British or American? Is it a young girl possessed or a teenager? Do they live with their parents?

Not sure... iirc the churches were stone, so British is probably more likely. I think a young girl at one point, old lady at the end... spirit is a witch maybe. That would make sense, I think all the possessees are women.

Maybe it does, but all the individual things added together doesn't ring a bell with me and I've seen a lot of this stuff, especially from the 70s. Could it be a TV movie or a TV episode. Did you see it on the telly, VHS, DVD or at the cinema ? And just stating the obvious, but watching a film on drugs is not the best way to remember stuff.

I meant 'Habits of lust' would have been a er... great... title for a 70s soft core feature length.

Nah, you're making assumptions about the mode of possession. I'm fairly sure it wasn't rotating head and manic cackling, more subtle manipulations and cold, dead eyes.

Were they all young girls, and were they still at school? Remember a blog post from a few years back where someone reviewed a TV film either set in Britain with american actors or set in the US with british actors, where possession gradually took place among a group of duffelcoat-clad young girls (led by one "queen bee" type creepy girl who was the leader) and where some sort of disembodied evil ghost spirit tried to take control of them all... The problem is, I don't remember which blog and this was ages ago- But could come in handy if I find it, 'cos it featured a lot of screenshots of the film- Will investigate, if you think this could be it...

Here goes then.

This film has been bugging me for years. All I can remember is a scene and a sort of 'feeling'.​

The film is pretty old maybe 50's but could be 40's. I was certain that Shelley Winters was the star as a girl in her late teens/early twenties but I've gone through her IMBD and can't find anything likely.​

I think it's black and white. There is a scene where I think the girl (possibly Shelley Winters but maybe not) is either playing or watching a game of tennis. It's a very tense moment in the film. She also has a younger sister. There's a boyfriend around and I think he is trying to murder her, the girl not the sister. She's portrayed as being a bit easy as the americans call it.​

That's about it but I know that I've seen it a couple of times a long time ago and I really enjoyed it.​

I think I may have to give up on the film myself. I've been looking for ages now and I think maybe I'm confusing two films or got the wrong actress, I don't know.
