Another vague film id request. Minnie?

Mongolia seems oddly specific. Is that a definite or a maybe? I'm assuming the film was an anglophone one?

It was American, all american main cast (with the odd token asian including some Chinese fighter pilots) speaking English. It was set in Mongolia. I can't remember the names of the actors. (or I could just google them) The main lead (the scientist) looked familiar to me but wasn't a big household name.

And found it (thanks for a brilliant effort Epona) It's this.

It's actually set in Bhutan not Mongolia and it wasn't the scientist it was the leader of the military contingent (Played by Ryan O'Neal) who looked familiar

It seems the Phil J. Roth production house - not one I'd ever heard of until today and one I'll likely forget by tomorrow - are a clunker production line, and from a swift wiki walk their output seems to make Event Horizon* look like David Lean's finest.

But I knew my search-fu couldn't be too bad to have come up with nothing on mongolian sci-fi...!

I actually have a deal of respect for that film - there's a great film in there trying to get out. The set design, Neill, Fishburne and Pertwee have all stayed with me even if it's largely steeped in schlock.

I posted this on the Frames thread but Epona reckons it should be here (Thanks)

OK Urban movie experts I am looking for the title of a Sci-Fi movie that was about a billion year old alien artifact that landed in Mongolia and was investigated by a group of fairly stereoptypical humans (free thinking hippy scientist, rigid military types, woman with unhappy past etc). It was a short title possibly only one word.

I have no other information about it other than I am sure I have seen it (on telly) and it is probably less than 20 years old.
Is it called Epoch?

I don't think I've seen that, it doesn't have very good reviews - is it worth it anyway?
I seem to remember that I quite enjoyed it though it ran out of ideas at the end, It does not appear to be on Pirate Bay so no-one enjoyed it enough to help others steal it
