Another vague film id request. Minnie?

If your description is as off as last time, you're probably right :D

and you can't even remember whether it's black or white :D

Now, is it set during the period the film was made, or is it decades earlier? :hmm:
Stop picking on me
I remember it being in black and white. I could be wrong though
It is set in the period that it was made, 30's 40's 50's America

...or put the word "tennis" in the keyword or plot search in IMDB and look through the films from the 40s and 50s of that period because tennis doesn't feature in that many films.
The tennis game was only one scene though.

Is this about no then?

There is a scene in Now Voyager where Bette Davis is playing tennis in the sanatorium with her loves daughter.
They are working out who each other are.
Her love sees it happening from afar.
Definitely not Now Voyager. I know every scene of that film :D

While we're on it I've got a bloody tricky one that has been bothering me for ages. I believe we may have been on psychedelics at the time, so I will try to remember the key features:

Horror, probably 70s, colour. Churches are involved, and death. There's an evil possession spirit thing going on characterised by a distinctive hand gesture performed by the possessed character. Touch tip of thumb to tip of little finger, then to ring finger, middle index, repeat creepily. That's about all I can remember.

Also there's a film which I think is fairly well known. Another horror (or murder thing)... Group of friends meet in a park to discuss weekend away. strange anarchist terrorist (sort of situationist) group is mentioned, which brutally muders groups of wealthy hedonists on weekends away (which is what these are). Brutal mudering commences. One murderer iirc.

Reno?
I want to watch both these films now so chop, chop.

Sorry, neither sound familiar to me in their specifics. What decade is the second film from ? That one sounds vaguely like House at the Edge of the Park from the early 80s.

Maybe it wasn't tennis but they were watching something. They were sat in a row of people outside, amongst other rows of people, I think they were tiered. The girl and her sister and maybe other family members and the girl's boyfriend or someone was planning to murder her.

Probably 90s, but not sure. It's a group of friends getting bumped off by one of their number scenario.

oh, I know the one you're talking about I think. There's torture chambers that the hedonists use yes, and I think it's somewhere in Eastern Europe, maybe Czech Republic or Croatia?

Are you thinking of Hostel ? Doesn't sound like the description.

Is either of the films American? What about the one that's not American? Is it Americans in a different country or is the film in a completely non-English speaking language?

Donkey Punch?

Nah, not that either

There's an Australian one where tourists get murdered, but not that either

Sorry, just thinking out aloud :D

When I said fairly well known, I may have been wrong, and may have meant fairly well known by the standards of obscure horror films. To recap the scenario:

A group of friends meet and decide to go to a place (large house of some kind) for a hedonistic weekend (I think). A sort of anarcho-terrorist group is mentioned, which brutally murders people.

They go to the place and are killed one by one, I am fairly sure various drugs are involved. One of their number turns out to be a member of said group.

It's one of those things which can't really be confused with another film.

The tennis game was only one scene though.
I think it would help if you could try and remember a few more details from the plot apart from that scene, which very likely (if it was just a brief scene and not crucial to the plot in any way) will not be mentioned in the synopsis of the film to be found online (and therefore selecting 'tennis' as one of the search parameters will probably be useless... :( ).

Do you remember for instance whether it was set in a city or in the countryside, what city/country, what class/social scene did the main characters belong to, do you remember any distinctive features or details about the characters, or other things that happened outside of this tennis game? Did they visit a rail station at one point? What did they do? They can't just have been sitting around watching tennis for the entire film- try thinking back and visualising the scene, if you try mentally picturing that scene in your head and ruminating on it, perhaps more of the plot or more visual clues from the story will come to you... ? (Sorry, just to clarify absolutely not trying to be mean/sarcastic or having a go, just trying to help- Although I'm not very good at it :D x Good luck in your quest to find a solution to this- admittedly very mysterious- conundrum)

Maya - you don't know what you're doing! DON'T DO IT!

I think she was trying to trap him into marrying her.
The thing is, the more I try to think about it the less I seem able to remember.
It's not that film with Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys-wotsisname, is it? That film featured (admittedly many games of) tennis, but was in colour and now I can't remember anything more about it either... ((( Shirl, I think it's spreading! ))) ((( memory :D ))) -> (!)

The film's set in the 40s or 50s, but could be the 30s, and could have Shelley WInters in it and could have tennis in it, but the tennis could be baseball or football or anything :D

For all we know, it's not even set in America
