WHAT.!!It eliminates the possibility of a 5th to Reverse "money shift".
Nobody has ever worked out the benefit of the Ruf 7 speed from the 80s.

You keep mentioning stuff that's utterly irrelevant to real people.
And hand cranking !!
I've never driven an automatic in 25 years of driving , I'll be sad to see the end of the manual.
no need to ever parallel park
Once you realise(sorry realize)
Racing is about winning. You win in the fastest car. What I don’t get is those who like racing cars and motor sports in general and can afford one, preferring an automatic 911 or similar performance brand to its manual counterpart simply because the automatic can complete a lap on Nurburgring faster.
Car racing is not about pure speed but driving skills and overcoming challenges. Which is why the concept of a fully automatic F1 or rally car is an abomination. If you’re enough a fanatic to splash 100k on a racing supercar that’s not even particularly comfortable for everyday use, then getting an automatic model is fucking madness imo.
In fact, I think it’s a travesty that hyper performance cars even offer an automatic option. If you like racing so much you’re prepared to forego a radio or air conditioning to extract the maximum performance possible, then get a manual ffs.
Yep. My folks ensign standard.I've started a car with the starting handle, how many on here have?
Not a car, but a Bedford HA van, for the lols to see if we could do it. These were still in daily use when I started driving for BT and I was issued two in my time, before some Ital derived shit replaced them.I've started a car with the starting handle, how many on here have?
See you don't disagree about the taste thing though...you're deluded.
that's better, don't make that mistake again.
This feature is standard on the new Nissan Qashqai, the most popular family car.
In an actual competition of course, but I’m taking about Joe Public buying purely performance models for their own enjoyment. Even if you take your car to a race track you’re still competing against yourself. If I could afford a 911 GT3 and did a brilliant lap on a racetrack, I couldn’t give any less of a shit if a Fast and Furious wannabe beat my time with a NO2 boosted Supra, anymore than Lewis Hamilton would be concerned about a rocket powered drag car reaching a higher speed than him on a runway.Racing is about winning. You win in the fastest car.

But presumably that figure is for the tiny weeny little gallons you get over there rather that the magnificent voluminous gallons we enjoy?this american only ever owned saturns b/c i got 35 or better mpg on the highway and they started every time.

To put it in another way, if you’re truly an admirer of the state of the art design and engineering prowess that goes into producing a top of the range Ferrari, you wouldn’t for a second think an overpowered monster that achieves a higher top speed on a straight but can’t corner for shit is in any way the better car.
‘My car has a top speed higher than yours’ is a premise that belongs in a primary school playground, and has zero validity in any serious car racing discussion. If you’re so obsessed with the art of top motor vehicle performance to sacrifice air conditioning or a radio, getting an auto of any given model you fancy if a manual option is available is a travesty imo.
But presumably that figure is for the tiny weeny little gallons you get over there rather that the magnificent voluminous gallons we enjoy?
They all have them nowOn the subject of performance car racing transmission, whatever happened to the paddle gear shift option that for a while felt like was going to be a thing? When I was researching the only car I ended up buying new, about 15 years ago, I am sure I remember paddle shift transmission available on the odd mundane affordable mid market model. As a compromise, if I were in the market for a Lamborghini-level car, I could let the manual transmission go if I was offered an F1-style paddle shift one.
I haven’t the slightest interest in racing whether legally on tracks or illegally on public roads. I’m jus trying to put myself in the mindset of someone who not just buys a 911, but chooses the one one model that’s highly impractical for use outside of a racing environment. So we’re talking about driving, not racing.
The latter you want the fastest option. The former, a Caterham 7

Oh anyone who buys one of those track specials and drives it on a road - never mind in a city - is a bellend by definitionI haven’t the slightest interest in racing whether legally on tracks or illegally on public roads. There’s a GT3 in Chelsea near where I work. It’s not even visually pleasing on account of having a big fuck off spoiler at the back. I don’t know what transmission options the GT3 comes with, but AFAIAC an automatic transmission GT3 that’s fucking useless for anything other than track days is a travesty.
