A UK crowdfunded mission to the Moon

And you can get some of your barnet left on the Moon too!

What is Lunar Mission One?
Lunar Mission One will send an unmanned robotic landing module to the South Pole of the Moon – an area unexplored by previous missions.

The mission will use pioneering technology to drill down to a depth of at least 20m – 10 times deeper than has ever been drilled before – and potentially as deep as 100m. By doing this, we will access lunar rock dating back up to 4.5 billion years to discover the geological composition of the Moon, the ancient relationship it shares with our planet and the effects of asteroid bombardment. Ultimately, the project will improve scientific understanding of the early solar system, the formation of our planet and the Moon, and the conditions that initiated life on Earth.

Lunar Mission One has three main aims

  • To use pioneering robotic technology to significantly further our understanding of the origins and evolution of the Moon and the Earth, and to pave the way for future lunar missions
  • To launch a global education project to inspire a new generation of children and young people around the world to get excited about space, science, engineering and technology
  • To create a comprehensive record of the history of humankind and the biosphere of the Earth
In returns for donations, members of the public will be able to place photos, text and their DNA sequences in a time capsule, which will be buried beneath the moon's surface.

Their lander bears an eerie resemblance to the one designed by the British Interplanetary Society back in 1938.

I'm dissappointed they don't accept dogecoin

(I very much doubt this makes any sense unless you had some interest in the dogecoin reddit section, or doge generally).

Should we be leaving something for aliens to find a billion years from now, where the only thing inside it is the names and DNA sequences of the sort of people vain enough to pay hundreds of pounds to have their name and DNA sequence put in a capsule on the moon?

What if the aliens clone all those people from their DNA sequences? Do we want the human race to be represented by only those people with more money than sense?

I dunno, £1200 for an invitation to a space rocket launch sounds quite tempting, tbh.

£600,000 would barely cover the fuel.

n.b: This is probably not true, but there's probably some equally trivial seeming component that does cost £600,000.
