A blow for Wrexham and far beyond (The Venture play centre closes)

Thats crazy. A saving of £170k a year will actually see costs increase. 30 people made redundant, just how much is that going to cost a year in JSA, HB etc. Add on the social costs of increases in crime etc. Madness.

What is so good about it is the way so many things that you just wouldn't think as having a knock-on effect from a play project have added so much to the community over the last 30 or so years. I remember meeting people connected with it in the late 1980s and was inspired by their enthusiasm, vision and good practice. So many people elsewhere in the UK and beyond learned so much from the Venture. It is a national treasure.

They dont need it anyway, its not as if the Caia Park is a horribly deprived place with a history of disorder and criminality...

Lets hope the WAG steps in and guarantees funding or makes the council put the money in, as £170k is probably a miniscule fraction of what they (the council) have got out of that god-awful Eagles Meadow place - and they will probably end up spewing far more money into the estate anyway.
