4 to 5k to spend on an estate car?

you should see how expenisive collecters cars are getting because you have speculater wankers joining the party

My 348GTS has basically doubled in value in the two years I've owned it. Mental. I wish I had bought the F512M I didn't think I could afford.

How many bloody estates have you had in the past 5 years? I cant even keep track.

You are properly unlucky! I would be getting a decent mechanic plus scan tool to check anything in future. Fingers crossed for the Insignia!

I have a very low mileage, 2017 Mazda, red paint n all. Paint is dreadfull so be careful.
I had an older one, in fact at different times I had two. One 2003 and one 2002 and both were made of some kind of low grade steel which rusted twice as fast as any other car I’ve ever owned. A modern one might be better, but to the OP - I’d run a mile from Mazda if you need it to last past about 6 years old.

A few. A mix of being really bad luck, incompetence and trying to do high mileages in old cars (which is what the insignia was trying to get away from).

Anyway picked up the Passat today. Lovely solid drive back up the motorway, I'm wary it's on 96k, but that's the market at the moment and it feels solid as a rock.

96k isn’t a problem on a modern Passat IMHO. Hope you enjoy your new car

Ah damn the Insignia is gone too.. just read up! Tbh 96k is nothing especially if mainly motorway miles. It's not the engine its the rest of the car you should worry (and tbh be more discerning about). You definitely deserve some good luck this time!!!

I'd take a Honda Accord estate any day tbh. See what £2000 gets you and how many years of high milage you can keep 'er going...

Just given away an old mini cooper d, it's done 190,000 miles with only 1 breakdown, good banger but a pain to work on as there's no room under the bonnet for anything, you pop the hood and it just is full of engine

edit: oops meant to post in the bangers thread

I’m in the market for a smaller estate, thinking along the lines of a fabia. I don’t need a full on tank of an estate but do need a decentish boot. Was doing my searching and for some reason, autotrader seems to think the Hyundai ix35 is an estate? Either way, it looks decent and could be a contender. Any other suggestions?

In my experience, I have never had any undue mechanical issues, and nor have I heard anyone else I know report of, with a Japanese car. So in doubt and when a Japanese option is available at similar price, I say go for it.

Price wise, I’ve got £2.5k equity in my car once I pay off the finance. So with that I can go up to £7-8k?

Friend has done pretty well with Corolla estates in the past, probably suits the ‘small estate’ description well.

My friends just visiting and his family run around is a Subaru Forester XTEN 2.5 turbo (80k on clock)

He wants to sell it and I am so tempted. Looks and sounds awesome. Just had bugger all real length in its luggage space

3.5k it’s immaculate and shiny black

I nearly bought a Suby XV a few years ago and ended up with the cheaper Mazda. In a way I still regret not trying for the Suby.

So I have finally sorted myself out with a mini clubman. Not the biggest estate, but will do me. mechanically its been looked after with the receipts to prove it. Cosmetically, it’s needs a bit of tlc. With px of the aygo it’s cost me £1300. Can’t really moan at that.

Saw this and if I didn’t already have one I’d be buying this

Cracking bullet proof motors, speedy, comfy and huge inside for a small external size

Anyone still looking for an "interesting" estate? raised, 4WD, winch....https://www.flipaclassic.com/product-page/subaru-legacy-mk1-4wd-l

I would love this. I like the 156's, sport wagon especially. It's even got the superb 3.2 V6 engine. What a beautiful thing, for very little
Nice! A bit small on luggage space. I had a 3.2 spider for a while in 2005 fastest car I’d ever driven at the time. Loads of fun

I’m currently trying to convince my dad to put the car cover I supplied on my E430 estate which is camped on his drive, to stop the door frames dissolving in a rusty puddle. He thinks the cover (brand new) makes his house look scruffy or draws attention to him “storing” a car on his drive
People have weird mad brains ”what would the neighbours think”

You’ve lived there for forty fucking years ya daft bugger

They're one of, if not the, most beautiful estate cars ever produced.
