It took me five minutes to cut and paste that from Variety

I'm actually taken an interest this year as i will have seen most of the nominated films.
No real surprises though

Ha, you said that too. There's one i hadn't heard of: Never Look Away. Maybe it wasn't released in the UK

I’m surprised that’s the German film to get nominated, but I haven’t seen it. I really hope they announce the directors full name: Florian Maria Georg Christian Graf Henckel von Donnersmark (also made The Lives of Others)

Where is Burning you fucks.
I haven’t seen that yet, but from the raves I would have expected it there.

There are lots of acclaimed indies which could have been nominated: Leave No Trace, The Rider, Eight Grade, Support the Girls, Zama, If Beale Street Could Talk but the ones nominated had the momentum behind them. Green Book, Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody are critically disliked.

First Reformed should have gotten nominations for Best Picture, Director and lead actor and Hereditary at least for Toni Collette.

One mainstream movie to deserve a few nominations is Paddington 2, which according to Rottentomatoes also is the best reviewed movie of the year.

I hope Roma gets Best Picture and Director.

I've seen a few of the best picture noms, of them The Favourite was the best, but there's been better films I'd put ahead of it.

Haven't seen Green Book. Looks like prime Oscar bait, but I think its reputation has been damaged by criticism of its racial politics.

My favourite film of last year was Mandy. Maybe they should create a "longest Chainsaw" category, you know, in the interests of inclusivity .

I think the shine has been taken off the Oscars of late - maybe its the controversies and hashtags are taking their toll, but also maybe people are just sick of sickeningly rich people backslapping. Awards are very meaningless anyway - just look on a lot of wine bottles.

I suspect the downward slide of viewing figures will continue

They went up last year. I read somewhere that they're the highest they've been since 197
Eta: just realised you meant the actual Oscars ceremony, oops!

Roma's is essentially just 'be nicer to your slaves guys, they're part of the family' slop.

Some 2018ish fillums i liked better than most of the nominations. Some mentioned already on here, some not. I've watched an awful lot of shit as well. An Adam Devine one for instance.

Burning. Beoning (2018) - IMDb Best fillum of year.
Widows. Widows (2018) - IMDb Blockbuster heist fillum.

The Resistance Banker. Bankier van het Verzet (2018) - IMDb WW2 heist fillum.
Den Of Thieves. Den of Thieves (2018) - IMDb Orthodox heist fillum. If it was remade in Korea it'd be great.
Climax. Climax (2018) - IMDb For the choreography, rather than the try hard oh so shocking wig out and upside down camera.
Dogman. Dogman (2018) - IMDb Despite the jacket.
Hurricane. Hurricane (2018) - IMDb Despite somebody from game of thrones doing a what is probably an appalling Polish accent and mugging a lot.
Operation Red Sea. Hong hai xing dong (2018) - IMDb For the carnage and sheer wtf chutzpah.
Hearts Beat Loud Hearts Beat Loud (2018) - IMDb Much better than the tone deaf gaga luvviefest.
Heavy trip. Hevi reissu (2018) - IMDb Also much better, and heavier, than the tone deaf gaga luvviefest.
Anna and the Apocalypse. Anna and the Apocalypse (2017) - IMDb Cooper take note. Put some tunes in your fillum.

No one else watching this? Not been that interesting but I’m very happy that Olivia Colman has won an Oscar.

Glad Olivia Coleman won. I generally think the Oscars are a pile of crap but she seems like a very nice person and is very talented so good for her.

The fact that Green Book won best Picture confirms my feelings about the Oscars. I haven't seen it so I admit I'm talking bollocks formed by my own filmic prejudices but it looks like a formulaic snorefest - in my opinion of course.
