2 Arrests at Brixton Reclaim Your Food

The above photos by the Ed were done I think on the same day I was there.
I can confirm what the Eds pics show.I was leaving the Ritzy just as the Vegans were setting up.There were police waiting across the road for them.Immediately they set up the police came over.About 4 of them. One with the camera. After a short talk the police just hung around. It was a bit wet so there were not that many people there.

At seeing this I thought id go out of my way to talk to the vegans.I told them I had complained to my Councillor about the police. They seemed pleased that there was local support for them.

Whilst I was doing this the pig with the camera took a picture of me.Doing it in such a way that he was making it clear to me that my pic was being taken.Behind me there were two other cops just standing there.I felt i had to talk in a low voice as they were trying to listen to what i was saying. The vegans had put up a few leaflets. The 2 pigs were making a big thing of looking at them.

Seems to me the presence of the police and the camera was intended to put people off being in the square. It was purposely intimidating.

From talking to the vegans and seeing what they were doing it was all peaceful. They werent bothering anyone else. They were also not "obstructing the highway"-something the police had tried to do them for.

I read the Time Out interview with Red:rolleyes:Ken.His excuse for not criticising the police over the Stockwell shooting was that, unlike the 80s,the new people who ran the MET (Cressida Dick and Ian Blair) were believed in policing by consent and "diversity" etc. That he (Ken) remembered Brixton in the 80s and it was all different now.
