Press release from Amnesty re Starmers latest approach. Even mainstream organisations like this/ large parts of party and Joe public support ceasefire. Im furious hes coming out with this same line.
Also way politician is going on about this is different from Ukraine. Complete double standard...
Fucking desperate now:
"A permanent ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war could risk further violence, KeirStarmer has said"
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/oct/31/keir-starmer-israel-hamas-ceasefire-may-risk-further-violence
My MP Kevin Brennan has ignored my last 3 emails asking him if he will sign EDM 1685 I suspect Andy McDonald has a great deal more in the way of principles:
KeirStarmer suspends senior Labour MP Andy McDonald over ‘river to the sea’ speech
Brendan O'Neill has written 750-words of absolute shit for the Daily Mail claiming that "Foot fought Bennites, Kinnock battled Militant, and Sir Keir has to deal with 'sourdough Socialists'
No link, but here's a flavour.
I take your point. What I was getting at was that in Spain taking the views expressed by some posters on this thread are considered normal part of mainstream politics.
I dont know what the pushback is from PP or Vox. Or if its something they want to make a big issue about.
What I was getting...
...country, though. That poll a few days ago showed a clear majority of people calling for a ceasefire. Of the other third, half didn't know. Hopefully a few of those now do know. The demonstrators today represented at least two thirds of the population on that point. KeirStarmer represents nobody.
and sadiq khan now (being reported on BBC radio london news, but not on their website yet

More on the Made in Lambeth right wing takeover.
"The group had become more industrious in 2017, when McSweeney took over as director. Previously Reed’s chief of staff at Lambeth council in south London, where they fought to wrest control of the local authority from the hard left, McSweeney had...
Listened to Helen Hayes MP on the BBC.
Asked about KeirStarmer comments and she said she was glad he had "clarified" them
She is what Id call middle of the road non offensive Labour. So does trot out things like attack by Hamas was terror. But every time she mentions Gaza its a "humanitarian...
The last line of the article is the crux of the biscuit:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/oct/25/keir-starmer-told-mps-his-visit-to-mosque-could-have-been-handled-better
“any change in stance now is just damage control”.
He is one of the best columnists in Guardian.
This is spot on:
Starmer in particular thought he had it all sewn up. Support for Palestinian rights was smeared with accusations of being anti Semitic. The usual suspects. He had returned the party to ( tbf Labour party supported Zionism from...
That's a good and fair article,
Linked from that is The National's article on a poll regarding a ceasefire, just as a reminder -
That was a yougov poll on the 19th Oct., I bet the proportion wanting a ceasefire is even higher now, with the recent images & news coming out of Gaza.
Occasionally, the graun gets it right
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/oct/26/israel-hamas-war-protesters-keir-starmer-labour
The Labour leadership had no grasp of their own grassroots’ feelings, just as the press has shown no curiosity about the hundreds of thousands of people –...
I think there's also the point that there is clear evidence that Israel is committing ethnic cleansing and war crimes, and saying that it is unclear is really making a choice to not see it.
Edit to add:
I liked this article by Owen Jones...
