ÓCIO
Back by popular demand, this eclectic, Brazilian combo tore up the stage with a blistering set of blues, rock and punk. Expect nothing but pure white hot rock'n'roll with no mush.

UKULELE GANGSTAS
Funk/rap/punk combo mixing up ukulele, voice, freaky sounds and drums.
"Glam bling hippy space cadets with a fine array of highly entertaining scuffle-pop songs ...the stuff that cults are made of. "

CAPTAIN HOTKNIVES
If Tenacious D came from Bradford, and was begging in Kings Cross.... the bastard child of Alexei Sayle and Howard from the Halifax adverts.

Looks like I'll have to big it up extra-stylee seeing as Time Out got it completely wrong and has listed the night as only having one band and costing a fiver to get in.

Captain Hotknives is a fantastic steal. The Hatter gave us a copy of the album for LQ's B'day and we've been singing along ever since.

Expect rhymes about forms of bread, racist white supremacist polar bears and skanking your nana. Far better and lyrically adept than it has any right to be.

There's another thread about this isn't there?

I'll be there anyway

Never heard about Captain Hotknives, but folks seem to rave about him ... :)

This is going to be a good one tonight. Hope to see some of you there!

Don't forget we also have a top comedy set from a Perrier-nominated comedian who also won the Hackney Empire New Act Of The Year 2007 award.

He'll be on about 9:30 so get there early! (cabaret starts at 9)

Captain Hotknives = genius. What a set!

Loved him. Feared he'd be a bit of a bedroom recluse, but he had real stage presence with his one guitar and banter. Fucking funny guy, not least because he seemed to be adding to and improvising a lot of the lyrics at the time. Huge thumbs up - would love to hear him on a longer set next time.

Ukelele Gangsters were fine fun too.

Captain Hotknives gave out free cds, how cool is that? he's very very very funny!!!!

:cool::cool:

p.s. never heard of him until last night now I'm his number 365 fan!

Huge thumbs up - would love to hear him on a longer set next time.
The man was an absolute star. I'm still laughing over some of his lyrics now.

He was well up for doing the Albert next time he's in London, so watch this space for updates!

unfortunatley I missed him last night but Brixton Hatter was raving about him when he got in and even woke up this morning saying he had been dreaming about his songs and had all the words in his head! :D

For those of you going to Metapunto he will be there too apparently :)

Captain Hotknives = genius. What a set!

^ ^ ^ This ^ ^ ^

After work I was really not up for anything aside from eating and sleeping. Enjoyed myself so much and laughed a LOT at all the acts.

Good night had by all methinks :)

I absolutely loved the Ukelele Gangsters, and as many are saying, Captain Hotknives was fucking GREAYT! :D

I have both his free CDs, yet to listen, looking forward ... funny as fuck! :D

I hope both these acts make some of the festivals. The lead man of the Ukelele Gangsters told me they are franticly phoning around for small stage slots at various events .... I suggested he tried Strawberry Fair, for one!

Oh yes and top tunage from Maggot as well

I just remembered that last night was the 50th 'big' Offline night (i.e. not including all the Albert, Alma, Charterhouse, Birkbeck and NYC gigs).

Blimey! And it only seems like yesterday that I was nervously spinning tunes for the first time at the Ritzy!

Thanks to all for their continuing support. :)

wow captain hotknives totally lived up to everything i'd heard! bit unfortunate i had come from free work drinks and so everything else is a blur i woke up on a bus in hackney wick at 2am which is never good, but worth it.

what a great night. I've never laughed so much in my life! Captain Hotknives had me, Tarannau and Lizardqueen literally doubled over in laughter at the end of the bar. I loved his accapella-ragga tune "Shabby Muffin" and "Glue" - all the reasons why glue is better than any other drug in the world!

I just have to promote his myspace page here where you can listen to some of these classics - http://uk.myspace.com/captainhotknives

Ukelele Gangsters were cool too - "Unicycle Drive-by" lol! - and the cabaret was great as usual.

cheers Ed :)
