Your thoughts on Epping

My grandparents used to live there, apart from the forest, I can't actually remember anything about the town, I am not sure if that's helpful or not. 🤷‍♂️

My mum stays there quite often as it's near an archaeology thingy she's been involved in. She describes it as quiet and she's 80. There is a bookshop at 71 High St but I dunno if it's any good.

Lived there from 2000 to 2007.

Hated the place in the end at that point, it had three BNP councillors which speaks volumes about the people who live round there.

Had a shop in the High Road which massively failed financially with a total cunt of a landlord who screwed me over.

Ian Anderson the ex-National Front chairman lived there and tried setting up a local action group. Nice enough bloke until you find out his past.

I'd happily see the place have a neutron bomb dropped on it.

Oh and Crass lived in North Weald, not Epping.

Old Rod Stewart was a regular sight in one of his Ferraris or Lamborghinis at The Theydon Oak. His Mrs.always seemed pleasent enough when she came in the shop.

As did Eastenders favourite and local, Nick Berry.

Saw Kat from Eastenders once in Tesco, rummaging through the bargain DVD box.

I love the forest - will probably go out there over the Christmas period - it's about 30 minutes drive from Hackney - haven't actually stopped in Epping very often - I did once try and find Griff 's shop - and succeeded only to find it closed .

I do go to nearby Loughton quite a lot.

I may have to take a drive to Lidl in Loughton shortly (a supermarket I really quite like as it's modern and very quiet) as mrs Griff has just sent me a snippet from the Metro about their own brand 19 year old whisky which gets a really good review. :)

We go to the Sainsbury's there - and the M&S - It feels a bit old school there - despite Loughton being almost the heart of The Only Way is Essex lot.

I always forget about the big Sainsbury's there, had to think where it was.

Took my driving test in Loughton back in 1984.

I don't know, I've never epped.

The forest is nice for somewhere that close to London. Otherwise a posh suburb. Not as posh as Richmond or Wimbledon, probably about like Pinner I guess.

The Merry Fiddlers was a nice boozer and was my nearest.

Spent a great Saturday afternoon there there with a mate once on pills and acid talking to some street-wise kid out with his mum with him going on about being a season ticket holder at West Ham.

Had to pick my mate up off the ground crossing the field to get home as he was rolling about and laughing so much at the clouds.

I lived near Epping for a few years, loved Epping Forest and used the two tea huts, the one near the pub and the one with all the bikers usually at it. I think Epping is the last stop on that tube (not certain). Didn't get into Epping too much, there is IIRC a library and a small art gallery. Did used to go to Theyden Bois, can't remember why :)

Not so helpful, sorry :) :(
