Your Television of the year 2015

D'wards

IT'S YOUR DECISION DANIEL
I think its been quite a good year for tv this year - here are the series i think have been largely excellent;

Fargo s2
The Detectorists s2
Narcos
This is England: 90
Peep Show S9

I'd say Fargo s2 tops the lot for me, and i haven't even seen the last one yet

wot no poldark?

Ash vs Evil Dead
Z Nation s2
I'd like to say doctor who but theres been a few real stinkers in there
Sense8
Daredevil

of the above list I think Sense8 impressed me the most this year. Its like the wachowski (sp?) siblings finally had the space to tell a story they have wanted to tell for ages. Visually stunning as you'd expect but with real heart

1. Olive Kitteridge - HBO mini series
2. Transparent - Amazon series
3. The Jinx (HBO true crime documentary mini series, jaw dropping!)
4. Looking (now cancelled :( )
5. Mad Men
6. Game of Thrones (I disagree with the Internet hive mind and think this was one of the best seasons)
7. The Returned (season 2, not as good as 1 but still good)
8. Empire (the Hip Hop Dynasty, it's female lead Cookie being the best character on TV right now)
9. Rupaul's Drag Race
10. Humans

The Leftovers 2 would have scraped in at 11 but I had a lot of problems with S2.
The Walking Dead needs to pick up for the second half of the season.
Orange is the New Black dropped off my list, crap season 3.
The Good Wife is always dependable, but wasn't as strong as last season.
Penny Dreadful 2 wasn't as strong as 1 but still very watchable thanks to Eva Green.
I still watch Project Runway and I still like it.

Still need to watch Fargo S2 which may well top my list, Better Call Saul, Ash vs The Evil Dead, The Bridge III, London Spy

Probably group some together as I tended to watch a lot of similar shows this year...

Fargo S2 was the best for me too (although it's literally only just ended so some reflection may be needed), shot gorgeously, acted to perfection and the whole thing executed with precision, humour and heart.
Better Call Saul - enjoyed it immensely, nice to see the familiar faces in a different way.
Archer S6 - Hilarious and so well written.
Ash vs Evil Dead - Everything I hoped it would be so far, Hail to the King baby.
Jessica Jones and Daredevil were outstanding, both with excellent supporting performances from the villains (Tennant and D'onofrio respectively).
On the superhero theme, Agent Carter was also a great period piece and Hayley Atwell knocked her lead role out of the park.
The Flash, Gotham and Agents of Shield are all halfway through but fun, twisty, action packed shows.
True Detective S2 - lots of hate for this, which I get, but I enjoyed it thoroughly, if it hadn't followed on from the hypefest that was S1 it would probably have been better received IMO. Colin Farrell in particular was great.

Just about halfway through The Leftovers S1, imagine I'll catch up before Xmas but I'm enjoying this as well, very trippy and weird.

Apart from the episode 'Hardhome', I think Game Of Thrones wasn't at it's best this year, although I still enjoyed it, fingers crossed for S6 and the unknown.

I forgot about Ash vs The Evil Dead, and this thread reminded me, so i'll consume that over Christmas i think.

Sense 8
Daredevil
Better Call Saul

At the trashier end of the spectrum Gotham has continued to entertain.

Fargo season one was the best thing on telly last year by a country mile, but I've only seen the first few of this season. I'm saving the rest for a post-christmas binge.

You've never seen Full Metal Jacket?
at least thrice, never made the connection untill now. Now you've mentioned it I can sort of see it. I couldn't tell you any actors name from FMJ without checking imdb, not even the sadistic drill sargeant

To be fair, I spent the first half of the series trying to remember where I'd seen him before. I think I probably looked him up on imdb in the end.

He was in that Millenium bug type film playing a demented cop iirc. Its on the tip of my tongue, but i refuse to look it up on IMDB, as it will come to me. I'm sure it had a female director and had days in the title. Juliette Lewis rollerskating in bikini bottoms.

If I may go non-fiction then I really enjoyed Great Canal Journeys with Timothy West & Prunella Scales - lovely TV

Jessica Jones.

Possibly Transparent but I've only just started watching it so we'll have to wait and see.

The Bridge, of course.

Sense8.

Still got to finish Daredevil, so not sure yet.

I don't tend to watch much when it first comes out, but what I have watched this year seems to have been pretty good.

Stonkers:
The Hunt
Wolf Hall
Vikings s3
Mr Robot
Murder Detectives
SAS: Who Dares Wins
Babylon
Humans
Hannibal
The Bridge s3

Curates' eggs (some bits great, others infuriating):
1864
London Spy
Doctor Foster
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Orphan Black s3
The Scandalous Lady W

Stinkers (should have been great but weren't):
From Darkness
The Last Kingdom
Indian Summers
The Ark
The Outcast

Arne Dahl
The Bridge
Dr Who (was a bit disappointing tbh)
The Great British Menu
French Connection

Various one off things I can't remember. Probably some stuff before autumn that I can't remember.

Watchdog went off the boil a bit and BBC breakfast should probably get a mention for sheer blandness.

Wolf Hall
Mad Men
Fargo
Detectorists
Better Call Saul

They may as well be in that order, it could be any. Fargo & Detectorists should come higher, except I suspect I am being a bit generous due to having just watched them

ITV detective series Forgotten, a top cast who played out strong back stories which made you not bother that much about whodunnit.
Sharon Horgan's 2nd series of Catastrophe, a quick return but the laughs were still there.
Big disapointment was the Last Panthers which made a fascinating high octane story a bit dull.

Fargo 2 - got 2 eps to go
Jessica Jones - 4 eps in & loving it
Daredevil - another excellent Marvel show
Better Call Saul - yes; it's not BB bad but it does just fine
1864 - 2 eps left and am blown away
Wolf Hall - Mark Rylance deserves a BAFTA
This is England 90 - desperately sad and funny too
Archer (Vice) - best "cartoon" there is
Orange is the New Black - loved it from start to finish, strong female characters
