Yet another choose a bike fred...

I have a spped limiter on mine, somewhere, but have not bothered with it yet.
Was Frau Bahn taking a selfie? That would flash of course.

And texting. Don't forget about texting

Just a thought though, does the car have a speed limiter? on the company BMW there's one and I use it religiously EVERYWHERE - it makes driving much more relaxing

Yeah, it's limited to 155mph.

It beeps when you go above a speed you set yourself, currently 90. She is minded to set it to 80, but once you are above the speed it stops beeping and moves a speed limit sign to the corner of the screen, as it is so easy to cruise above 80 with the general flow of traffic I don't see that would help much. Trying to get her to use the cruise control would be more help.

I'm not that bothered how much she spends on a bike, she's the one who's happy with a £100 piece of shit. Still, means I can put the balance towards the Mondraker I'm hankering after...

It will be a proper piece of shit though. Unless it's totally flat where you are, it won't get used.

The towpath is flat. What's so bad about them on the hilly bits?
heavier bike, lower quality chainset/gears, generally add up to less efficient cycling, makes hills harder than they should be. Went out yesterday with lamb1979 and although it was first ride of the year, the better bike than she had last year makes for a much easier ride ( just needs to get used to twist shift gears)

No idea! Im a pleasure cyclist so not up on all the names of parts. I guess my advice is more coming from that angle? From someone who doesn't know a great amount but i feel happy that the bike lamb has got is Bob on for her  We don't be doing more than about 30miles in a day and that's only if i can trick her with a route :D

Cheap bikes are dangereous! Out of curiosity, I looked at a newly opened cheapo bike store a while back and the first thing I looked at on their top end bikes was the brakes; they did not look like they were "very efficient" (understatement). The frame looked like it might break, components looked like they may drop off.
As a user of finer things, you should be paying more than £300 for a new bike and looking at bikes with components like ringle, hope, Whyte Etc. I wouldn't use shimano and hated twist grip. Rapid fire gears are so much easier to use, especially for less experienced cyclists.

This is what I was looking at:
Buy Mondraker Factor 27.5" Mountain Bike 2017 - Full Suspension MTB at Tredz Bikes. £1,999.00 with free UK delivery

But with the saving on Frau Bahn's bike might be up for something higher specced.

You think you drive a top of the range car yet you are looking at cheapest of cheap bikes
How would your nice car look with a cheapo raleigh on the back? :D

Estate car with wanker-darkened windows = no bike visible to the hoi polloi.

Ikea. Bicycle. no way. Just why would you?
The reviews aren't bad.
Seems to be if you want a drive belt system instead of a chain this is a cheap bike.

If you want gears though this only has two so it's rather shit on steep hills.

I'm semi considering it.

Yeah... and it's about setup. Won't take long for the cables to go slack, the gears to slip - everything generally to go a bit wrong. And stuff like wheels need to be built properly, or they'll be dished before you know it (especially with a slightly clunky rider). I once bought a £100 new bike for use on a trainer... God that was a heap of shit. And yeah - grip shift is crap.

Looking to get slightly more friendly road tyres for my Carrera Vengeance, most of my riding is on trails but not in the deep crap so the slightly more solid build of the MTB suits me, but I'm hoping to get more use on the road and maybe try the Dunwich route in July

So, reckon these would fit? Which seems best?

Do you know the dimensions of your rims?

To be honest it's been bloody ages since I last ran my MTB with road tires... We didn't even have 27.5" in my day <shakes fist at sky>. I think I used Marathon pluses, which are durable but a bit heavy.

I have road bikes now, surprisingly they're much better on roads than MTBs. You can get very good deals on ebay, provided you can judge whether its nicked or not.
