Women's strike in Iceland

Even their prime minister joining, suppose in some ways it's not surprising that the country ranked as most gender equal has empowered women enough to push for a final closing of the gap: Women in Iceland including the prime minister go on strike for equal pay and an end to violence
Was interesting reading about the earlier strikes and their international knock-on effect.

I just learned that Iceland's parliament is called the "Althingi".

Which is a totally awesome name.

Much older than ours despite Westminster's claim to be the mother IIRC. Seen a pic of the traditional meeting place which was a sort of suitable outdoor natural arena.

Lots of Nordic countries' parliaments iirc are -things or -tings, from Þing in the old Norse. Same root as the Isle of Man's Tynwald and place names like Tingwall and Dingwall in the UK.
