Not got a video doorbell but eufy camera I’ve got is pretty good and doesn’t need a subscription.

Now I'm trying to work out how to get a damn network cable to it...

Don't buy one that forces you to use their servers in order to see your videos. They'll all abuse you with ever increasing subscription fees (Amazon/Ring), and there's a good chance the company will go bust (not Amazon, but most others), then you're screwed.
I've bought a few Reolink cameras, which don't force me to pay somebody else in order to see my videos. They're good cameras, and the videos they take belong to me, not Amazon.
