Which SF book would you like to see as a film.

How about a proper version of War of The Worlds, original setting, keeping to the plot, not setting it in America and loosely basing it on Wells' story and getting some cunt of a Scientologist to fuck it up even further than it already was?

Yes spot-fucking-on. Set in 1904, and on and around Horsell Common in Surrey.

Some China Mieville. Probably Perdido Street Station would make the best film. It would have to be cut down a bit, but most things would.

It might be better as some sort of animation, but that's not such a problem these days. The CGI necessary to make New Crobuzon in a live-action film would necessitate a big studio and consequent removal of everything interesting about that plot.

'Tis very ture. I suppose that Hollywood is worried that it wouldn't appeal to a mass market (i.e. American) and I would assume whichever studio made that aberation with Tom cruise in it has got the rights to it so close to their chest no one else stands a look in. there is also a 50's version but its not much cop either and is also set in the States

Not sure it would be doable except as a cgi fest tbh

The 50's film is a red scare number and shite.

i'd love to see that!

You have to be careful that your wishes aren't granted. As a boy I loved the book Starship Troopers and often thought how great a film would be...

Having said that, I'd love to see a Ringworld film with Andy Lau as Louis Wu.

Tik-Tok by John Sladek (sexy psycho robot and huge land ships!)

The Caves Of Steel and The Naked Sun by Asimov (space noir with Elijah Bailey!)

A couple from Clarke I've always wanted to see on screen are Rendezvous with Rama and also The City and the Stars.

Frederik Pohl - Gateway would be a goodun too.

There's a trilogy by Jack Vance, it started with a book called Starkings. Loved em but still haven't tracked down the last one.
Space detective revenge fest.

Half of me agrees and then remebers judge dredd and shudders .

One of my favorite books growing up was C.J ,Cherryh ,Merchanters Luck .
Would love to see it on the big screen but it is a bit obscure .

In some ways, Jeff Noon's 'Vurt', but I'm just not sure it can be done. I know it was floating around years ago, as a mate's dad (who is a film director) was offered it but turned it down as he didn't understand the book. Probably gone dead now, so I doubt it'll ever be made.

Thats the one with the 'feathers' right?

Be careful what you wish for....

From Wikipedia - "According to the back cover of Market Forces, and the review by Inchotaus Group the rights to Altered Carbon for film production have been purchased. IMDb presently states that a film of the same name is scheduled for release in 2009, to be directed by James McTeigue"

There's a few in that series that might work though. Rimrunners and Hellburner are relatively compact. Downbelow Station is a bit more expansive and might do better as a mini-series, but would be dead good if they pulled it off. Alas Cyteen would probably be impossible.
