Actually 13's the US title. Black Man in the UK. It's not a Covac novel. Think he's done with that character.

Ah right. I've got Black Man in my pile of books to read -- got it in a bookshop clearance sale when I was up visiting my folks for Christmas, for a couple of quid.

Some China Mieville. Probably Perdido Street Station would make the best film. It would have to be cut down a bit, but most things would.
It might be better as some sort of animation, but that's not such a problem these days. The CGI necessary to make New Crobuzon in a live-action film would necessitate a big studio and consequent removal of everything interesting about that plot.

They've missed a trick with not doing a film as it is in the book. Superb book that would be no problem to realise as a film and stick to the story.
'Tis very ture. I suppose that Hollywood is worried that it wouldn't appeal to a mass market (i.e. American) and I would assume whichever studio made that aberation with Tom cruise in it has got the rights to it so close to their chest no one else stands a look in. there is also a 50's version but its not much cop either and is also set in the States

The forever war, Joe Halderman, would make a good screenplay, lots of action but also questions social norms.

There's a few in that series that might work though. Rimrunners and Hellburner are relatively compact. Downbelow Station is a bit more expansive and might do better as a mini-series, but would be dead good if they pulled it off. Alas Cyteen would probably be impossible.
