what to do with figs

I've got a fig tree in my garden that's produced loads of figs this year  However, they're all ripening like mad at the moment - noticed yesterday loads had over ripened and fallen off the tree and got ruined :(

What kind of (very simple) things could i do with figs? I just ate one raw & completely plain last night - was quite nice but nothing exciting. What goes with figs?
All i can think of is fig rolls :D

Quarter, smear a bit of dolcelatte or other blue cheese on them, wrap in parma ham and grill for a little while.

You can pickle them, or preserve them in a spiced (cinnamon, ginger and a little bit of chilli works well) syrup, then serve them alongside bread and cheese etc.

In the last house I lived in we had a Fig tree. I justy used to eat them raw when they became ripe. I love figs au naturelle.

I like to use slices of fig as pretend crackers for big lumps of parmesan or lancashire cheese. If you like runny hunny, dip your fig and cheese snack into that. I would be as fat as a fool if I had a figtree, blates.

Jam and chutney are always a good bet for people who grow things and end up with far more than they can reasonably eat. A woman in my office is currently bringing me plums like they were going out of fashion. So I'll be making jam soon. Last year she was inundated with gooseberries, so I made loads of gooseberry jam.

For me, there was an annual competition.

When the figs ripenned the competition was on, would I get to them before the starlings did !! :)

I just eat 'em.

Only discovered them a couple of years back (was assured growing up that I wouldn't like them).

Fig Tart

Get some filo pastry. Melt some butter and brush a sheet, use it to line a shallow baking pan. Do this until you've you 5 sheets. Cut the figs (6 or 8 should do) into thin wedges and lay them skin side down in the filo.

Mix 75g of pain flour with the same amount of caster sugar in a bowl and mix in 4 eggs. Whisking it all up, add 3/4 pint of milk slowly until it's all smooth (you want a consistency like batter). Add 1/2 tea spoon of almond essence.

Pour the batter over the figs and bake for an hour at 190 degrees, or until golden and the batter is set.

Cool on a wire rack for 10 mins then dust with a bit of icing sugar and serve with Greek yogurt.
