What sort of a person would go to this? (UK drive in rave)

I expect the answer is 'not many people at all' tbh. It's not surprising that people who organise parties for a living are trying stuff like this though is it, what else are they meant to do? We'll be seeing similar versions of all sorts of stuff.

I get that and I suppose if it's a success, then fair play to them. I can see how a drive In cinema might appeal to some people (I've never been to one) but for the majority of people, there's probably far less interaction than at a rave. Are the cars going to beep (or should I say bleep) at one another on an epic breakdown (tune, not engine failure)?

It looks weird, surreal, and probably kind of dull after the first couple of songs - but if the choice was between that and staying at home for the umpteenth night, I'd definitely be tempted to give it a go. And it would give you something to talk about during the "What did you do during lockdown?" conversations that will probably persist for the next 50 years.

You're right that staying at home can be boring but I think I'd rather pay promoters for a stream of a really good DJ line up, where you can get battered at home & dance & you still have the digital social interaction. That said, the vid seems to show a reasonable amount of interaction. Dunno about that music though.

I didn't realise the event was only 2 hours long - in that case I would definitely be willing to go, it would probably be the only chance I'd ever get to experience a "stay in your car with the windows up because there's a pandemic" drive-through rave, unless some weirdos decide they prefer it that way and it becomes a regular thing.

Now that the skies are clearing up, let's encourage those wealthy enough to own a car to make more journeys.

And sitting in a car in a field and 'raving'? Nah, it's money making bollocks.

how do you get to festivals and raves that don't have decent public transport links normally?

I don't know because I've always found a way to go by public transport - and if I did go by car, at least all that travelling would be for five days, not two hours.

You've flown many thousands of miles over the last few years, why shame people who want to drive a few miles for some vague facsimile of a rave after months in lockdown?
I'm not 'shaming' them, I'm expressing an opinion about an event which encourages people to drive more at a time where people are trying to get people to make fewer journeys.

Fuck off Frank I'm not a twat because I love a rave, but possibly for other reasons!
I wouldn't go to this because I like to get high when I rave and I wouldn't be able to drive home.
I imagine the cops will be waiting by the exit ready to breathalyse/drug test any dodgy looking drivers. A complete sober 'rave' stuck in a car watching some DJ wave his hands about in the distance sounds horrendous.

People have been cooped up at home for months, maybe driving a few miles down the road and sitting in their cars and honking their horns to some music for a couple of hours will cheer them up a little bit.

Pretty sure there's other solutions available that don't involve driving miles and miles. Never knew 'honking a horn' was so important.

You were lamenting your band's cancelled tour about 2 days ago, it involved flights and/or driving between about 65 cities in North America - unless the whole thing was being carried out by hot-air balloon.

I wouldn't drive to this drive-in rave - I don't own a car or even have a driver's license, but I fly several times a year so I don't think I'm in any place to complain about people driving anywhere..

I see you're keen to make it all personal. How disappointing. For the record, the band always travel by public transport whenever possible, but clearly that's not an option when you're flying to America. However, we were going to take the train to some gigs, but as I'm sure you know, public transport in the US is terrible. The tour's been cancelled anyway.

And I don't think anyone's car ownership status should prevent them from expressing an opinion about an event that is entirely about encouraging people to drive some distance for two hours.
