I immediately collared my HoF for a meeting to talk about my options, which were pretty much what I thought. I'm currently ks4 coordinator for all performing arts (ks4 = the GCSE years). This position won't exist, but there will be a new position of head of drama, for which I'm the strong favourite. If I don't get that role, to justify my current pay level, I get to negotiate a new area of responsibility, for which there are a few options that are right up my street.

I'd almost prefer the second option, but I suspect the head will not want the other candidate due to inexperience and cockiness. However, if I am head of drama it's pretty similar to what I do now, but with clearer autonomy and a more impressive job title. (I was a head of department at my old school, but that was a tiny department just getting by, whereas this is about as big and important a drama dept as they get within mainstream education.)

You want to watch the head, he might want to be responsible for drama, what with calling an emergency meeting at an hour's notice.
yeh. when i worked in a student union one of the things we were warned about was ways to ruin a meeting / prevent effective opposition to plans, e.g. call meetings at short notice (check), table the agenda at the meeting (check), set a guillotine on the length of the meeting (check), have it at an inconvenient time (check)...

needless to say i used all of these tips to great advantage.
