what books would you like to see made into films?

Pingu

Credo
pretty much as it says in the title tbh

there is a BIG assumption that the film will be a good one though as opposed to some hastily thrown together bollocks.

I would love to see some of Larry Nivens stuff - Ringworld in particular (given that the film rights were sold in 2000 and something this could even happen). Short stories from the tales of known space or Lucifers Hammer would be cool too.

At the moment I'm reading a book called The Plimsoll Sensation: The Great Campaign to Save Lives at Sea by Nicolette Jones. It would make a great film.

Sceptism Inc by Bo Fowler. I'd just like to see them try and create the main character (a shopping trolly).
Who would do the voice.

Jean Paul Sartre's Roads to Freedom trilogy - The Age of Reason, The Reprieve and Iron in the Soul. That's potentially 3 films but could be done in one by a good director. I'm surprised it's never been done (I think it will someday) although the BBC did a serialisation of it back in the 70's.

I was going to say Alfred Bester's the stars my destination, but it looks like it's already in development... No news since 2006 though (at first glance).

Cities of the Red Night by William Burroughs

It would be impossible to do of course, but I would like to see someone have a shot at it

I'd love to see someone try lanark, but it's go so muchy potential to be done really really badly...

I'd love to see a film of it because it's one of the few books I've ever read where I completely failed to get any visual sense of what was happening, a complete failure of imagination on my part

Really? That does suprise me, i was the exact opposite. Part of the potential for fucking it up IMO would be concentrating on building the landscape rather than concentrating on the emotional aspect of the story.

I'd like to see Dune done properly, I.E perfect in both visuals and plot.

Also I'd like to see King Rat done, but not in the low-budget rubbish style BBC adaptation ( Like that horrifically bad Neverwhere adapt)

it's odd, the whole book totally threw me. I just utterly failed to get it. I read the whole thing and came away with no idea about what I'd just read :D

Weird experience

Good Omens. Gilliam was attached; Depp was cast. Then no money.

Stardust and Beowulf did alright, both Gaiman written

That reminds me.

American Gods.

It'd be ace :D

American Gods would be hard to render visually imo. So much of it regards a conflict of mythic structures. Good Omens could be well

A.G could be done if you just put it out there; and let people work it out. Like The Matrix, but based on a good idea.
