Usain Bolt breaks 100m world record

To smash the world record was great but it was that bit of showboating at the end that really made it special!

Don't really like watching athletics but i'm really glad I watched that, it was the most amazing performance from a sportsman I think i've ever seen.

Interesting comment about just how quick can a human being run 100 metres, it'll all depend on how friendly natural selection is I suppose :). I think 9 seconds is possible but I don't know whether that will happen in my life time. How fast was Bolt going do ya reckon?

he was running at 10.319917 meters per second which makes an average speed over the 100m of 23.0849969 miles per hour!

How fast could Bolt have run the race if he ran hard all the way through the finish line?

"I don't know. I've never seen him to do it," said Dr. Herb Elliott, a physician for the Jamaican Olympic team.

How cool was Bolt? His sleek, aerodynamic shirt was untucked and his left shoe was untied. It's surprising he wasn't wearing a beat-up pair of Chuck Taylors. Or flip-flops.

He was so relaxed that he said he prepared for his record-setting performance by sleeping in, not eating breakfast, watching TV, eating chicken nuggets for lunch, napping, eating some more chicken nuggets for dinner, and resting. He devoured some snack cakes during the postrace news conference and said he might also go to Burger King

:D:D

Nice article here!

It's a daft thing to average though, init; the start is stationary, the next 50-60 is acceleration, the rest is about how quickly you slow down. It's really not an average speed kind of event - unless the media say it is, of course.

well of course, but there's nothing wrong with a few gratuitous statistics that don't mean anything :D
