ULEZ camera cutters

...

Anyway attacking a non sentient object isn't violence.
So, English justice systems say it is, Tim off the interwebs says it isn't.

I wonder which is correct?

You going to start quoting 'Maritime law' next?

Tim wasn’t making a legal argument, but a moral/political one, so how the English legal system defines violence was irrelevant to his point. But in any event, it isn’t true that intentional property destruction is regarded as a violent crime by English law. Violent offences are understood as ones that intentionally or recklessly threaten the life or limb of another.

Well exactly, many on the left or on the activist scene equate non-violence with 'good' and violence with 'bad', and so twist themselves into all sorts of weird positions defending things they think as of 'good' as non-violent.

In my idiolect, it is correct, but perhaps not in yours.

Anyway, what is this "English Justice" that you refer to?

Might have meant England and Wales . I don’t think , however, that criminal damage itself is included in the violent crime stats .

The radical left is actually fairly non-knotty ime in saying violence against people =/= damage of things.

my various SM feeds are full of this. fucking algos. I do think its good that people actually get involve in stuff and can organise. but fuckin hell, this really isnt the best use of that energy given the state of the fetid , stinking , overflowing blocked toilet that is the UK. Yes , I have a diesel but its got that pigs piss additive stuff that makes it lovely and nice apparently

Counterterror officers called in after Ulez camera is blown up - Times (archived)

Scotland Yard said it officers were keeping an open mind as to “whether or not there is a connection between the camera being cut down and the planting of the explosive device”.

In a video posted on social media in the aftermath of the blast, a man was heard saying: “Ulez camera’s been dismantled, blown the geezer’s van in half, shrapnel everywhere. Broke the geezer’s fence. It’s like a World War Two explosion’s just gone off. Well done, Sadiq … putting more people’s lives at risk.”

Extremely stupid to raise the threat level like that given they were rolling along quite well with petty vandalism and making Facebook Reels of themselves talking bollocks at camera installers.

On a different note, not sure if this should go here or in the Tories being incompetent thread but the MP for er ... Mansfield, is petitioning not to have a ULEZ round his manor, which I guess is an easy win, given there aren't any in Mansfield and the only council nearby that he thought was considering one, Nottingham, have said specifically that they aren't.

If I could be arsed I’d set up a petition to have one outside his house. But I can’t.

Pretending to be the victim of an imaginary threat is what right wingers do these days, so it’s standard behaviour for a Tory. Suspect he has opinions on critical race theory which presents about the same level of harm to him as the ULEZ expansion.
