Tom Verlaine RIP

Only really got into Marquee Moon recently. The thing about it is not how many other bands ripped it off, but how badly they all missed the point. Those jaggedy guitars, tricksy rhythms and drawling vocals would all have been for shit without Verlaine's ear for a great tune.

RIP Tom.

Another band I first heard of on the mid-80s version of 'Whistle Test' - with their weekly archive clip:

Finally got to see them in 2016 at Electric Brixton - great show from memory.

Keith Levene, Jeff Beck and now Tom Verlaine. All within 12 weeks of one another.

Marquee Moon is simply a wonderful, singular album. Thanks in no small part to Verlaine. RIP.

I had a WhatsApp from an old school friend who says he’s put on the vinyl of Marquee Moon which I’d given him way back when. Which I can’t remember, but it’s nice to know he still does. I’m transported back to a simpler time.

While Marquee Moon is recognised as their greatest album I used to really like Adventure. Especially the track called Days. I bought a vinyl copy secondhand a few years after it came out and it reminds me of a very specific time in my life (early studenthood).

RIP.

Had the 12" of Foxhole on red vinyl as a kid in the late '70s and it aways sounded fantastic

Great to hear Tom Robinson play it on 6 Music this evening. Tune!

I never really “got” Television - although not for want of trying on the part of one particular friend who’s quite cut up about this. Some interesting guitar bits but one of those ships that sailed without me. RIP anyway.
