Threads (1984 BBC post-nuclear film set in Sheffield)

Yeah it's advisable to have a visual cleanser nearby, if I'm honest....

With Wargame specifically, the worse part is its dramatic scenes are based on the aftermath of Dresden and the Fall of Berlin, as in it actually happened.

So much better than that whack site Musky ballz offers up:

Head’s up. It’s on telly again tonight. For only the fourth time ever.

Weds 9th Oct 2024 - 10pm.

Still yet to watch this, my BH is back tomorrow after taking care of their Mum, it’s time I think.

Be prepared to be shocked to the core. It's a brilliant, devastatingly incisive bleak film.

Check out this video of the aftermath of people who have just watched the film:

Another woman who appeared as an extra said that while she was watching the drama she thought “everybody's going to get out of it like all the other films,” but Threads offered no hope.

“I want to die when it hits me because I don't want to live through anything they lived through, not at all - it was horrible,” she added.

Its probably a perfect film to watch on a stormy night in Autumn given the grim subject matter.

I've got it on blu-ray somewhere I think - occasionally watch it if I'm feeling masochistic.

hmmm i watched it on the internet archive when the war started in Ukraine

just a bit gloomy

will it be on the iplayer :hmm:

I told myself not to watch it, but then I got in and switched it on anyway. Just in time for the nuclear blast. It's just as brilliantly bleak as I remember.

I love how some of the men in the council bunker, and Ruth's father in the basement are still wearing ties a week after the bomb. That's proper commitment.

err you watching the right thing as it over an hour long. 1 hour 40 as per iplayer

speaking of which iplayer has it has it available for 11 months in all it bleak gloriousness

Threads is not for the faint-hearted.

Didn't bother to watch it this time, as I have seen it several times already.

[Watched the documentary about the 1968 floods down the valley of the River Chew ...]
