Libertarianism is right wing? The American right stole the word from us.
That is very interesting. Could you give a concise definitive meaning of Libertarianism. What is it exactly? In Spanish, Anarchism and Libertarianism are considered more or less one and the same thing. I've enjoyed the writings of Maurice Brinton, English Socialist Libertarian. Its literally the opposite of authoritarianism! In the English-speaking world, its usually thought of in terms of an ideology for greedy rich people placing personal freedoms before any concern for others. I reckon Libertarianism is a good thing, and have had nasty looks for admitting it among lefties, who must either be authoritarian, or ignorant of what it actually means, simply perceiving the anglo saxon right wing connotations.
Libertarianism is right wing?
Well, that’s the problem. No, originally it wasn’t. But in the mid 20th Century, the term was appropriated by the likes of Hayek to mean the kind of laisse faire capitalism they were pushing. “Fuck you” capitalism. This American movement gained ground, and so this is the meaning that most English speakers would now attach to the word. Sadly.Libertarianism is right wing?
I believe they used that rather than Anarchist so as not to scare off potential recruits.
From Rush? Huge Ayn Rand fan.Neil Peart

I once went to a gig by Sid Kipper, advertised as "Vaughan Williams stole my folk song". It's a bit like that. The American right stole the word from us.
Liberty-ism. Libertarians seek freedom in all aspects of life, and seek to enjoy emancipation, cooperation and conviviality among likeminded citizens. There is no higher authority than these communities of resistance, not the state, not political parties or unions, just groups of free spirited free thinkers mutually supporting one another. That is very interesting. Love that definition. That is what I say it is. You have put your finger on it.Liberty-ism. Libertarians seek freedom in all aspects of life, and seek to enjoy emancipation, cooperation and conviviality among likeminded citizens. There is no higher authority than these communities of resistance, not the state, not political parties or unions, just groups of free spirited free thinkers mutually supporting one another.
Yeah. Theoretically, anarchists and neoliberals have that in common. While anarchists and other socialists, who want state ownership of Everything, are divided by this. But I reckon these things shouldn't be dogmatised (flexible free thought), and in practice there's no reasons all socialists can't unite, despite fundamental differences in ideology. One of the definitions I have encountered during my reading was by a journalist writer called Neil Peart whom in an interview said that it was to do with having a government having very little control over things. Also that it was to do with the individual having control over their own affairs, particularly business.

The individual / social anarchism distinction might be relevant. Right wing libertarianism likely has have much in common with followers of individual anarchism. Even though this distinction stems from the left.
