Depends - if it’s a hard drive that you’re backing up and it dies, probably.

I'm wondering what people do to store music now that I've started buying files again..... I have a external hard disk but was thinking of signing up for some cloud storage.

My music collection is stored on a 128GB microSD card in my tablet. I either use a Cyrus Soundkey and Grado headphones or use the MusicCast app to play over wireless to my Yamaha receiver. Manages hires Flac files just fine. The collection is backed up on a 1TB USB hard drive attached to a Sony TV which has Kodi installed.
