The sound of 140 / Bass / Neo-proto-jungle-speed garage!

This Jungle-Juke (and beyond) mix feels like it fits on this thread...

“Paris-based Moresounds music is that rare thing: a real synthesis of dub and dance music aesthetics, pulling from the enduring, mutating DNA strands of each to create something that’s beyond a mere mixture of styles.”

Theres an excellent boiler room mix by dream continuum in this vein too (dream continuum are Om unit and Machinedrum united as one juke making machine).

I play a lot of jungle/juke crossover, sound of 2014 I reckon

the problem with the juke stuff is i cant dance to it, and the way the US dances to it is not about to catch on here I dont think, I just dont the UK will ever be ready for it

I didn't have any problems bopping about when I've seen it out.....

Well in my head I didn't, on the outside I probably looked like a jelly with the coordination of a tripping sloth.

we can bop to anything, but the whole logic of the way those tunes are built is to dance to them like this

thats partly why 2 step DnB has held sway so long - its a dance a lot of people can do! (the endless shuffle)

Yeah but there's a lot of juke influenced jungle coming out, hence I think it could become a bit more popular over here

I really like that little computer game sound bite in one of the tunes on your video :)

I've heard a lot if this type of thing being played out and about (me mixing, not particularly brilliantly)

personally from what ive heard those tunes are still too jukey for me to groove (dance) on properly (though the balance is UK friendlier in the tune you posted)

You don't have to dance to it that way. I've had a great time dancing to it, just not that way

nice...yeah thats danceable, but its definitely juke-influenced, not out and out juke. Its possible to dance to anything with a beat but i still stand by the idea that proper juke truly requires proper mad-shit juke dancing to make sense. You can dance the macarena to a tango, but its not the same. You miss so much of the music out without your leg wrapped around your partner and a rose between your teeth!

The reason the music sounds the way it does is because its built for that dance, not the other way around - or at least has come to exist in a symbiotic relationship with the dance. Thats the way i see it anyway. Of course everyone is welcome to dance to whatever, however, im just saying i dont think the UK will ever truly wholeheartedly embrace it, because it cant dance to it properly, and so the music doesnt fully make sense

my favourite tempo these days is about 70bpm (or generally slow dub), so 200bpm just isnt going to work for me :D

I think this needs its own thread...theres been bits of chat here and there in 2013, but it would be nice to collate stuff on this nu sound in one place.

Haven't heard a catchy name for it hence neo-proto-jungle-speed garage [NPJSG]! :D I say speed garage as quiet a few tunes have the UKG swing + breakbeat + hoover bass elements

To kick off heres some chat from the mixes thread, and a great mix which captures whats going on so far:

quote="porno thieving gypsy" An excellent proto jungle mix - think Special Request & Tessela type tunage. Much better than I'm making it sound! /quote

(Nice to see some OJ names on there, Doc Scott, Wax Doctor, DJ Die, and fair play to Mark Pritchard who never got tied down in one style.)
First impressions are that this is something that could just be called Minimal DnB. Maybe 3 decent-ish tracks in the 50 or so minutes I listened to.

Disappointing.

Will give it another go, though.

what you on about Onket, was a great mix.

everyone generally does get a bit carried away about Special Request etc though.

eta it is of course subjective i know.

probably my 2 fav tracks off the mix are

and on the garage tip

that mumdance and logos tune is big too but not on youtube

you cant not like those two!

its still early days, but the fact there are people making tunes in that vein suggests therell be bigger and better to come in 2014

I'm going to give it another go tomorrow on the way into work and I might note the highs and lows as I see them so you can see where I'm coming from, ska invita. :)

Tessla dubplate from last nights Boiler Room set - the whole set not up on youtube yet

might be called Rough 2

a hint of Bell Biv DeVoe - Poison on the drums :D

Thinking about some more tunes that would fit on this thread, there's some on the bang face album (bangface the night, just did its first release, a compilation album covering the genres play on its nights).

Sorry these are both just small previews, they don't seem to be on youtube or anything.

Sanxion remix of Armageddon by Mark Archer

This one totally took me by surprise, Bong-ra and DJ Produce Glowstyx VIP
