Looks mad and I would do that no problem but for heavens sakes is nothing sacred anymore? These cunts went up there to get away from everyone and now they probably have dumb yanks torturing them every day asking if they do cappuccinos as well.

Clearly the worst bit would be coming back... I guess I'd stay there for a while.

He appears to be harnessed around his neck?

There are, incidentally, quite a few "paths" like this kicking around. In the Italian Dolomites especially.
With or without the harness, it still looks a mighty dangerous pursuit.

Via Ferrata is what this kinda thing is usually known as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_ferrata

Old WW1 mountain routes on the Italian Austrian border most famous origin, but others too. Is aw a crazy old pilgrim route in Spain somewhere.

There's been a few recalls of equipment recently after kit failures led to a few deaths.

I thought it looked a bit scary, then saw the harnesses.

Guess it's one of those things you have to do if in the area.

It's perfectly possible to show respect to a local culture without having to be religious yourself. Just good manners, really.

I agree with that, but someone larking about on a rock for a pic is hardly so disrespectful when the locals have already nailed a platform and harnessing cables to it.

it is good manners to respect people's religious beliefs, yes. glad we're in agreement. :)
That's clearly not what what I said, but I really can't be bothered entertaining your attempts to disrupt this interesting topic with some really dull cross-thread point-scoring. Go stir away elsewhere!

*yawn.

Looks like the path has been made a fair bit safer:
When I first posted the pictures of Huashan in January 2007, I believed it was the most dangerous trail I had ever seen. It is important to note since I first wrote this story, I have received several letters that suggest the Chinese have made significant improvements to this trail.

I try to point out hypocrisy wherever I see it. There's a very simple way of avoiding being pulled up on it.
