The Moto G Phone, £135 yet decent smart phone.

I got a moto G8 Power 2 years ago, I was always unimpressed with its lagging, now it is becoming increasingly unusable. Given that I've kept most of my cheapo phones for 3 or 4 years this is a bad result and I wish I had got something better, even if it was a bit more expensive.

So what are the cheaper phones that are well enough specced that I can actually get 4 years or so of life out of them? Two days of battery would be nice but after my experience of this G8 Power I think I'd rather go for a nippier processor if it's a trade-off between the two.
You just missed O2 selling the Xiaomi 12 Lite for £199, which is a great price for a good performer. It's £249 at GiffGaff if you can stretch that far.
That's by far the most powerful thing for the price available.

Poco M5 can be had for £120 right now, which is a decent deal for the spec. It's not quick, but it's a lot more powerful than the G8 Power.

Motorola Edge 20 is still keeping up and reasonable cheap now also as I've not managed to smash it

it a tough one
Specs wise a good phone, but Moto's update policy is poor next to several others with a similar spec at a similar price. In fact, according to Moto, your last security patch will be in August this year. Even Xiaomi do three years now.

true saying that seeming as I normally buy my phone's second hand after they been out for over 5 years first phone I'm going to have to worry about

A couple of years ago my wonky Motorola G4 plus touch screen grid briefly fixed itself but at the expense of the fingerprint sensor.
It seems to have have happened again, but at the expense of brightness :p

:hmm:
In the park I rebooted and started thinking about unmounting sd card Factory resets etc ..
Got home, turned on the WIFI, screen went full brightness and the touch grid went nuts....
On balance I prefer this ...

about ten minutes ago, i got a 'test for ricardo' on 'device help'

tweeter suggests i am far from alone with this.

i suspect ricardo may now be hiding under his desk...

Yeah I got that too. Dismissed the notification and now my phone's bricked. Can't switch it on. It was playing up in the week so possibly unconnected but a bit sus.

So I think that after maybe 17 years and 3 Moto Gs I'm going to switch brands.

My ailing G4 sort of half rebooted during the week - stuck at the blue bootup screen - and having no ability to remove the battery I thought that was it - holding the power button didn't work - I think eventually it just continued to complete the reboot - I think without the animations and I think the apps may still have been open when I checked ...

Me too. But my phone is still working fine so far.

Yeah that's sort of what mine did. It switched itself off and took a lot of swearing to start again and then took ages to boot. Trouble was that my train ticket was on it and the ticket inspector was standing over me getting impatient. It took 18 stressful minutes to restart and I just managed to show him the ticket before we got to my stop.

Last night it just switched itself off and now won't start again.

Yeah, I'm sure my phone woes are unconnected.

I also reckon that Ricardo got a right bollocking from his boss for testing on a live service.

:(

i just dismissed the message, didn't do anything about it and all seems fine - although i've not switched it off since

Talking about Moto phones.

I registered my Moto G9 Power when I bought it.

It was only a couple of months before they started promoting their next phones to me. Is that a thing, compulsive upgrading whenever a newer model arrives?

They have kept promoting new models to me, but my phone is still fine. Irritating really.

My Motorola One has stopped working. My local phone shop said it's a software issue and they can't fix it. Any recommendations for Motorola repairs?

Ohhh I've only just seen this, I have a Moto E30 and had that too, I was standing at a bus stop in East Ham at the time and was looking around suspiciously for someone who looked like they might be trying to hack my phone - of course everyone had their phones out so that was fairly useless!
I turned my phone off right away and didn't turn it back on until I got home, it was working fine afterwards.
Was a bit paranoid about it at the time though!

Another phone shop said it would cost £70-100 to repair without a guarantee of success, and I'm better off buying a new phone.

Should I stick with Motorola or try something else? (don't want to spend more than £200).

It's a pity the 12 Pro is a bit over £200. The camera is massively better than anything cheaper.
I wouldn't buy a 4GB phone if I could afford 6. 4 will do the job, but it's getting to be an edge case with app bloat. 6 should be good for years to come.
The Honor 5 Lite comes in at £199, but it would be understandable to not want to blow the whole budget.
