The Final thread

well done spain. they played fabulous football and deserve the win!

if it wasn't for lehmann being the only one switched on properly the game would have been lost by a much higher score as well for the germans.

it would have felt fraudulent if germany somehow would have managed to get a goal in etc.

also i felt we could have been a bit more cheerful, coming second etc, at the end of the game.

I really feel sorry for Michael Ballack. Has there ever been a better footballer who has lost as many finals?

To think even Djimi Traore has a Champions League medal rattling around his cupboard. And Stephane Guivarch has a World Cup winners medal tidied away somewhere while Ballack has more or less fuck all.

Jens Lehman is blaming the ref. I thought that the Germans behaved with such dignity in defeat, their fans stayed behind and then they give a microphone to fucking Lehman.

Well I'm glad of the result. Spain have been one of the very best teams of the tournament and based on how well they've played all the way through the tournament I think deserved to win it just that little bit more.

Sometimes its nice when the best team doesn't win but as a neutral i prefered it this time when they did.

Neither of those players are despicable cheats though.

So everytime a ref doesn't give the germans a dodgy penalty or freekick, they have to blame their loss on the ref i guess..

His main gripe seems to be that Silva didn't get sent off for head butting the German bloke who stuck his head in Silva's face. What about Lehmann's handball outside the box or doesn't that count.:(

So far I've managed to not dislike the German's in this tournament - by and large eliminated the curly perms, some good goals etc. My reslove is slipping now though... The land that brought us some of the most unpleasant goalkeepers in football history.

Yep. Germany lose so the match was fixed.

Oh fucks sake...the celebrations here will probably be going on all night! I want some sleeeep!

Mustnt grumble too much though.

*pours self a large glass of vino*

Silva got provoked into that as far as i'm concerned.
I've read this, and wondered if I made some half-arsed reply yesterday. Then noticed it was about David Silva :D

While I usually support Germany and loathe the spaniards, in the end the best side won.

And Lehmann is a twat.

Wow my head really hurts :D Good game...nervous drinking in second half big time but thought we were the better team. And for some of the criticism leveled at Xavi I thought he was outstanding yesterday.

Yep Ramos and Puerta came through the Sevilla youth team and were old room mates. Sergio looked really emotional about the whole thing. Nice gesture :)

Good to see the tournies best team win it:),the Germans were poor imo, only 1 shot on goal, tells ya everything when their best player was Lehmann, all the same I still though they'd sneak an equalizer in the last few mins, that woulda been the biggest act of grand larceny in football.Anyway it leaves England as the biggest underachievers in world football :p

Marcos Senna has to be the Player of the Tournament, unusual to see a Brazilian play for Spain, they tend to favour Portugal

You mean Xavi....Xabi Alonso didn't play much so that would be quite an achievement! He was excellent yesterday and against Russia. Senna has been better but I guess holding midfielder isn't considered glamourous enough.

ow, my head hurts. great win by the spaniards, best team of the tournament won for a change, hooray.

Me too...:(

Worth it though, great night of football. The atmosphere looked electric and (for once) the best team won.

On a partizan trip, well done Cesc, you deserved that...

For me, Senna was man of the tournament, geezers like a rock.

Agreed although the entire team gelled. Casillas is pure class (plus Palop and Reina in reserve!), even the defence after a few wobbles pulled it together...Puyol as usual made up for tactical issues with determination, Ramos was solid again. Marchena and Capdevila both played well.

The midfield...what can you say about Xavi, Iniesta, Senna, Cesc, Xabi, Silva, de la Red and Cazorla - it must be a managers dream to have that depth of talent at your disposal. And then there's the strikers. For too long we relied on Raul when it was clear he was over the hill. Villa, Torres and Guiza have all had great seasons and bought that form to the tournament.

lucky for spain that england weren't there becasue none of those midfielders would be able to oust gerard, hargreaves, lampard, cole or beckham, and ht eenglish defence is probably one of the strongest in the world.

Well done, Spain. Thoroughly deserved it. Is this the beginning of a decade of dominance?

World class, mate. Fabregas? Overrated, mate. None of that lot would get into the England team. Torres? He's the poor man's Darius Vassell.
