Well...

I for one am loving it so far. Am a huge fan of the original film so that may be a bit of nostalgia but it is really well done and enjoying the back story.

Only one episode in so far

Well memorise the names of those blonde gelfling women and get to know them. It'll really help with the narrative.

The first two episodes are just kinda scene-setting and introduction.

It's awesome.

I watch the film quite regularly (few times a year for about 20 odd years) so am pretty up to speed. New characters and questions about some aspects of the plot and world. Trying to just enjoy it rather than guess :)

Rian is a fucking twat.

Sigh.

The puppets also strike me as a lot smoother and less interesting compared to the originals, just something off. There are some good bits but overall its a bit so-so.

Also I have to ask if the world of the Crystal is perfect and there is no darkness and tithes are objectionable... how come you have a warrior elite and princesses and kings Princess Brea and Deet?

Seriously. Getting so fed up of Netflix and their cancelling programs at a whim. They can fuck off now. It’s really not even worth watching any series made by Netflix anymore until it gets to season 3 at least.

It just won an Emmy for fuck sake.

Lots of series get cancelled if they don't pull in enough viewers on regular tv and premium channels. Commercial US Networks will just cancel a show half way through a season and not even show the remaining episodes (that happened with Firefly). With Netflix you at least get the whole season. This was an expensive series and it looks like it didn't get the viewers or the buzz to make it worth another one for them.

That sort of behaviour is a bad thing though and valid to complain about. Except with Firefly, which was massively overrated toilet.

I liked firefly. . . . but serenity was toss. It probably wouldn't have ended well if the comics and the film were anything to go by.

It was definitely something special at the time, but I tried re-watching it recently and the magic just wasn't there anymore, even when he kicked that bloke into the jet engine .

I didn't much care for Firefly. I just took it as an example of a series which got cancelled before it even made to the end of its first season.

Tbh I was just having a cheap dig at Firefly because I get annoyed by the absurd levels of praise it gets in my circles. (I do also think wasn't that good at the time and has aged really badly, but that's for another thread or even better no thread at all.)

I mean it is definitely true that it's not just Netflix that cancels things, by any means. It's still annoying if you like the series, whoever does it. I have to say though that after posting on this thread in 2019 I didn't watch any more of it because I just couldn't be bothered - it was just too slow and not interesting enough, even if I like fantasy series and found the puppetry endearing. So from my POV this isn't a really egregious Netflixing.

The Dark Crystal tv series got good reviews but I don't know anybody who watched it or discussed it on any of my social media. It wasn't for me either, because I was already too old for the film when it came out. I just feel sorry for a friend of mine, who was a puppeteer on the series and for whom this was half a year's wages sorted.

Would have liked to see more of Mindhunter myself, but it looks like that won't get more seasons.

Mind hunter is worse as that’s just on indefinite hiatus. What does that even mean in the tv world!
In this case it looks like David Fincher is too busy with other projects for now and nobody knows if he'll get back to Mindhunter.
