The Cycling FIlm thread

Sigmund Fraud

893 all the way.
A thread for the movie and documentary delights of all things bicycle.

Lets start with some 80's TdF porn.

Hinault vs Lemond, 1986 Tour de France: Slaying the badger - the greatest tour of all?

and The High Life: Granada Documentary on Robert Millar on the 1985 season. Peugeot porn, big hair, Steve Winwood, atrocious team tactics and infighting, amateur hour mechanicals, no helmets and Alan Peiper talking about tits.

Viewers used to the stage managed slickness of Team Sky should look away now

Overcoming. A curious documentary about CSC's 2004 TdF effort. There's quite a few strange vignettes that illustrate the forced intimacy of life on a pro cycling team. Like when Bjarne Riis is advising Carlos Sastre how often to wank.

Saw it in the cinema. Riis came over like a sinister Dr Mabuse like figure. He caused the crash with Bobby Julich and then bollocked him for it and his treatment of Ivan Basso in the AdH hotel room after coming second the LA was very weird, Basso:I think second is ok? I did ok yes? | Riis (stroking Basso on the back whispers):No, Ivan, it is not ok, its not ok.

Well worth missing IMHO

The central time trail bit with Ole Ritter gunning it down the seafront in the TT is awesome:cool:

BMX bandits from 1983 - Nicole Kidman before the botox face ossification years. Could be a stunt kid getting that wicked air:hmm:?

Where has people's imagination/memory gone? How come this is missing ( sorry for poor linkie), is this one of the sexiest bike fims ever

Look at the pedigree of this - Brian Clemens (Professionals) and Terry Nation (the Daleks, original 70's Survivors)...and Michelle Dotrice, Mrs Frank Spencer / Edward Woodward.
I remember seeing it.

It doesn't rate very highly on the Imdb rateometer but I thought it was quite a dramatic/spooky film...

Joe Kid on a Stingray is like a bmx version of Dowtown and The Z Boys. Can't find the full film online unfortunately.

I ditched my BMX for a race bike because of this film.

One half of the twin pillars of hollywood cycling movies and featuring an early pre dances with wolves shot of Costners arse (sounds like a medical condition). The bikes were made by "specialized" who apparently went on to be a very successful bike manufacturer. And Eddy Merckx has a cameo! And the racing isn't totally shit!

And then theres Breaking Away; won an actual oscar for best screenplay and is a decent coming of age film in its own right. Dennis Quaid, the tall one from Home Alone and Rorschach from Watchmen support Larry David's dad in law and Dennis Christopher - who was going to be bigger than Jesus. The Little 500 race at the end is now the stuff of legend.
