The Caledonian Sleeper

Well, you and I clearly have different definitions of glamour sir! :p

;)

Ah yes, I remember the sweeping plains of the Gatwick/Crawley area well my Lord. Afore we knew it, a sight no man could not gasp at. A sweep of Gate Gourmet 'rapid aircraft serivice' trucks swept across the bewlidering vast tarmac. The yellow rotating vehicle-warning-beacons had us mesmerised, but I for one longed to be back in the terminal, the comfort of the 'High Street Prices Guaranteed' Dixons, as I looked forlornly at my Terminal Building 2 Medium Stay Car Park ticket.

Or you can wake up and look at mountains. ;)

I really don't know how I ended up on this side of the argument - I've been wanting to go for well over a year!

My head hurts :( :D

(And I also seemed to have developed a nasty habit of overusing smilies...)

Do it, it's fab. Rough at the edges, but fab.

I take this quite a lot from Aberdeen. It's hit and miss whether you can get bargain births on the days you want. I've seen as low as £39 from Aberdeen but cheaper from Edinburgh/Glasgow.

It's nice to travel with a partner as the bar is open and you can get drunk before some wibbly train sex.

That said, the train is quite dinky. A lot smaller than the sleepers on the continent. You cant get two people to squeeze past each other in the corridor and the rooms might get a little intense if sharing. There's only really room to basically sit on your own birth.

Beats the shit out of flying.

You visualise yourself chatting to some Romanian girl about literature, and falling in love, whilst both knowing that the relationship can only last as far the journey. *sigh*

Just thought I'd update after doing a bit of enquiring: new quotas of Bargain Berth tickets are added every Friday, and they can be booked 12 weeks in advance.

Something to add to your Friday afternoon routine ;)

It's £40 extra each way to take a dog with you. Apparantly to cover the cost of the extra cleaning involved.

I'd make sure my mutt left a pile of runny shite on the floor for 80 sobs.

i'd love a journey on a sleeper train too, but i think i would enjoy it in europe better.

btw don't get your hopes up about fort william, it's nothing special. i've always thought it was a bit of a dump, if truth be told. :\

A friend and I have been planning this trip for ages, hopefully finally gonna go in May :)

The cheap tickets are 'bargain berths', priced between £19-£49. From what I can gather there are only a few on each train and you can only book around 12 weeks in advance.

Really excited about going, there's loads to do up there

I would like to do this was hoping to go to Scotland in March but may have to put it back to September. Would be interested in what the train is like comfort etc.
