The Bourne Identity

akirajoel

well read
*rant on*

Shit film. And one I wanted to like.

Made for stupid idiots who want something a little different from a "typical hollywood blockbuster." Everything about it was adaquate - Matt Damon wasn't particulary rubbish in anyway, and it had a nice look to it - but when it finished I was left all I could think was "no way can this be over..."

Half finished, half baked nonsense. Seemingly made only for the benefit of the sequel.

Yet another film thats left me feeling fucking cheated.

Damnit.

Anyone who thought that its a good film needs to get out more and raise their painfully low expectations of - you know - cinema and entertainment and stuff.

*rant off.*

defo..

The Bourne Identity 2 apparently explains the firsts alot better.

quite enjoyed it after i realised it was just another holly'maleinjection'wood film.

There was a 4 hour Bourne identity from the 80's that was much closer to the book with many more twists than the Matt Damon Version, which simplified the story right down.

i read all those ludlum books when i was a kid, they've never managed to do them justice on screen, did anyone ever see the michael caine one? the holcroft covenant i think it was called...awful

I thought the film was shit as well, And Matt Damon was so unconviing it is untrue, It was like the film 'Teen Agent' He was ment to be this great master agent at 19, what the hell was he, a child spy?

I really liked it :(

Especially the car chase natch ;):D

Haven't seen the second one yet though :)

How? Why?

The car chase is cool - but don't you think there should be more to a film than a good car chase?? no???

They're making a third one of the moment. Bah.

Bourne Supremacy was pretty fucking good IMO- as spy/thriller movies go anyway.

Bourne Identity was not as good but still watchable.

Not exactly brain trust material, but good cynical fun. And a fantastic ludicrous gimmick at the end when he surfs the corpse down a stairwell, popping an assassin on his way down :D
The second is gobshite imho - a re-tread of the first with less going for it.

The first two fims have been good i presume there is a third on the way at some point as well. Some of the car chases are sweet and jason bourne is fucking smoothe.

The books are so much better though and i really have no idea how the screen play was written from the books. Half the charecters are different die at different times and quite often the films take place in the wrong country or contineant and quite how carlos hasn't been mentioned yet(in the films) is very very weird.

In the "Film As Art" category, yeah it's pretty shite.

How many better spy movies have there been in the past 10 years, though? I think it's a fine little spy-thriller.

I thought both films were ok. Nothing earthshaking but entertaining enough, with talented directors behind both of them. Doesn't make me a "stupid idiot" either.

Bollocks, it was a fine film. Just remove your brain and enjoy.

Exactly.
What were you expecting? Gorky Park?
I thougherly enjoyed them for what they were - well made Hollywood thrillers.
And for what it's worth, I thought for a Hollywood thriller, both 1 & 2 had a lot more going for them than most - reasonably good plots, great European locations and [in 2] one of the best car chase sequences since Bullitt. Oh, and Franka Potente of course. ;)

Only seen the second one, thought it was alright as it goes, half-decent thiriller that passes two hours, like Frantic, The Fugitive et al.

I love films and I'll watch owt though tbh so don't fucking take my word it.

Good film.

Better than Akira or any of that Japanese cartoon crap, anyway.

In my opinion.

A plot that concluded on some kind of satisfying level would have been nice...

Blurgh.

I could rant on about my opinions about stories and how they work and everything - but seriously I don't think its worth it.

The premise and buildup were good and the car chase was nice - but apart from that?

Please stop comparing this to other films and saying "well its better than..." and "what other films have been as good as this?"

If you've watched this film and think that it in an well-made, solidy crafted, intelligent thriller then - i dunno - whatever. I wasn't expected "film as art" or anything like that - just something that was gonna be good. (imdb database recommends 'Leon' which is a good example of what I'm trying to talking about.)

At the end of the day - i still think that people who think that Bourne is a decent film is probably an idiot. And probably indirectly responsible for the poor current state of the planet - culturally, spiritually and physically.

But thats just what people call "an opinion."

 :p

It's the first half of a sequel, "The Bourne Supremacy" being the second part...

Akirajoel, it's just a film which most people don't loose much sleep over, so try to lighten up. Making your point with a modicum of eloquence and respect is more worthwhile then a "rant" where you accuse people who don't share your particular opinions of being idiots.

I'm not a huge fan of Matt Damon, but the film is a good one... if you like this kind of think - AJ clearly doesn't - though I'd recommend Ronin and Leon for the superb Jean Reno if nothing else.

Are you Jean Reno, Reno?

:p

Heh. Well... It works for me. :)

I wanna point out that I didnt actually call any particular person an idiot - i just said that anyone who rated it must be.

No, I'm Reno Dakota from the Magnetic Fields song :)

PS: I'm not a big fan of Leon or anything by Luc Besson I'm afraid. Jean Reno is  though.
