The Book of Boba Fett

well he go thrown into the sand pit with teeth and was the bad guy who even Darth Vader told to "calm down on the disintegrations"

trying to get power as the new crime lord of a planet so more antihero

More of a bad guy for hire (bounty hunter/ mercenary in the original trilogy) than a proper bad guy, I would say. Now he’s a free agent, and so far showing signs of fairness within the remit of his new role of local crime lord.

I enjoyed that. Had a lot of what I most like about SW. Different aliens interacting, following the lore / history of the world. Sound design and music also well done too.

During the show and if you dig further into Star Wars lore, Boba Fett is ethically grey. He's very much like Han Solo in that he does occasionally bad things or things that could be perceived as such but he also has a stubborn streak of something decent.

not sure if solo has the body count of boba

again Darth Vader having a go at you for being trigger happy

What’s so great about these new SW series is that they’re moving away from the simple good/evil of the films and showing us the shades of grey, the people just trying to survive in what is - due to the actions of the “good” guys - a fairly chaotic and dangerous world.

Watched the first episode today if not quite as awesome as the first episode of The Mandalorian it still got off to a decent start. Fennec Shand is clearly the remote descendant of SHIELD Agent Melinda May both played by Ming Na Wen, she seems to be getting a tad typecast. Temuera Morrison is a decent actor but it's probably good he gets to show his face more, he hasn't quite got the same ability as Pedro Pascal to convey emotions with his face covered.
The one thing I love about the Mandalorian is the way he manages to convey a despondent atttitude of "Not This Shit Again!" before he goes on a rampage and leaves a trail of death and destruction behind him.

I absolutely loved episode two. Just brilliant and ludicrously watchable. The ‘past’ storyline in particular is so enjoyable :)

And agricola , I don’t know how well versed you are with pre-existing SW films. But in case you’re not very familiar with them, the beauty of the past time storyline is that much of what we’ve seen so far is mostly new. At least to those of us who haven’t explored the expanded universe of comics and cartoons.

It doesn’t rely on familiar locations or cameos from well known secondary characters or races (like the present timeline does, even though I am enjoying that too). Instead we have a fascinating deep exploration of a race that until now had served no other purpose than being one-dimensional pantomime antagonists. And we have new rituals, creatures, factions and machines (loved the hallucinogenic ’night in the wilderness’ thing with the lizard up his nose, and the Snowpiercer style train. For what’s worth the badass-looking distant cousin of the Wookies in the present timeline was ace too) .

A lot of fresh material and even less reliant on legacy plots or characters than Mandalorian was. With stuff as good as this I couldn’t care less if we never see another Jedi, lightsaber or X-wing on a SW series again.

Big Lawrence of Arabia vibe there.

I loved the Bad Wookiee.
If someone had told me years ago I would find myself one day rooting for Sand People and feeling sad when any of them got shot, I’d have told them to pull the other hand
.

On another matter, does anyone who last week was saying Boba Fett is fundamentally still a proper wrong’un still believe so? Because regardless of his past, he seems no worse than Han Solo right now- treats the little people and inconsequential henchmen antagonists better than Solo ever did, even.

Indeed, in fact that is what I was trying to say - as someone who grew up with and loved the original trilogy (and to a lesser extent the prequels) I wanted to find out more about the sand people, wanted to see more of Tatooine, wanted to know what happened after Jabba's demise, wanted to know more about Boba Fett (and about the rest of the bounty hunters on the Executor, and about how the Imperial Navy worked.... and all the rest of the universe that was created for us). That its made by people who clearly feel the same way and know how to put it across is fantastic.

I can well imagine though that someone who grew up later, or wasn't that into SW to begin with and thinks its basically all Jedi, would find such things at best to be less interesting than it was for the rest of us.

loved the second episode ok so a fett fan

but seriously don't get the hate about the world building around boba, i mean had like 2 minutes of screen time and 2 lines of dialog
they kind have to flesh out his character

thought the first few episode of madalorian when a bit meh to begin with

Good second episode. I hope they don't soften him up too much. He was a sub-contractor for the Empire afterall. He handed over Han, man!!!

He kept his teeth nice over the years.

i was sitting towards the end pondering if he would blow up the 2 hutts on the palanquin whilst get carried away with his jet pack

whilst yelling "i'm boba mother fucking Fett "

:D

maybe just me

Just been reading up on the fan boy Web reviews of this and didn't realise the significance of the Bad Wookie and the people on the train.

John Favreau and Co really are pulling influences from all the SW universe, not just the films, but the comics, the animations and everything.

Which shows a passion for the material.

Which is nice.

Even Leia liked them (RIP Carrie Fisher :( )

Mmm… weakest episode for me. Some good bits but I don’t think Quadrophenia gangs work very well in galaxies far away. Almost a ‘jump the shark‘ moment for me there. Good to see Danny Trejo, though.
