suggestions and education for this clueless folkie, please

O what a treat. I hadn't looked at this thread since sometime back in February but now I have a whole delicious trove of music to trawl through. Such a delight after being stuck in the barren wilderness of memory and familiarity for months (years). For the longest time, I exerted a load of effort to keep up with the contemporary scene, having a dread of missing out on new and innovative sounds. Nowadays, it's pretty much all new to me (it has been years since I did that hanging round my local record shop and avid reading of the music press. Does this even exist anymore? (fond memories of having to pick a team - NME or MM). Somehow, the whole internet/youtube/passed me by (apart from the early days of Napster and the like).
Anyway, once again - thanks for doing all the work so I can just gratefully listen while mindlessly spinning yarn or knitting. And housework.

Been getting into Lankum as mentioned above. Totally up my street.

Also I've just "discovered" Gwenifer Raymond who does Bill Fahey style instrumental guitar. She's immensely talented.

More obscure but I've been enjoying Leveret who are a more traditional English accordion/melodeon/violin instrumental group.
I saw Gwenifer Raymond on Sunday night, she's amazing live - defo try to get to a concert.

Live set here from July 2021.

She plays better than on the albums and some of the material is more adventurous too. Not just great but getting better I think.

Written by Eric Bogle, a Scotsman who emigrated to Australia. He's been a favourite of mine for decades.

Two versions.

Another of his.

And one more.

This is his magnum opus.

Not sure if you would regard this as folk, but it is an awesome track, and a wonderfully pure voice.

It wasn't until I heard it on DID today that I realised the subject was Bob Dylan, although I did know that they had been together at one point.

Stumbled on this. Legiana Collective. Great musicians/singers and they seem to do folk music from around the world. Here's an English traditional song. Lankum's arrangement. Just right.

I just saw the unaccompanied folk thread, so these don't fit there.
Another vote for the Unthanks.

And Vashti Bunyan.
