Sticky: On This Forum You Must Have These Opinions.

What about if someone said that they liked dub music, say, but that it had, in their opinion, mutated into drum and bass quite recently? Would that be an acceptable opinion to hold :D

There is no need to be invoking dairy products here. This thread has been peaceful up to now. ;)

Surely you'd have to be a total tool to give a fuck about someone else's music taste.

<shakes head sadly>

oh Pavy Pavy Pavy

you have so much to learn from us....we are the epitome of totally toolness on this forum

it's what makes us great.

Essential additions to the yes list

1. Bands from Chapel Hill, North Carolina 1991-95 including Ben Fold Fives cos they have the best band name ever
2. Anything that falls under New Weird American - Jeffrey Lewis, daniel Johnson, Castanets, Devandra Banhardt (I suppose)

Can I just say that I absolutely loathe the term Americana?

Yeah always was a bit of an albatross and a bandwagon for shithead artists to jump on. I used to write for No Depression and we'd always use the expression "alt.country (whatever that is)" which kind of took the piss out of the supposed scene.

NWA is a much finer term.

on the 'good' list:

  • detroit techno (UR, juan atkins etc)
  • 'proper' electro (jonzun crew through to dopplereffekt - not including what 'the kids' seem to think is electro, oh no)
  • indie metal (high on fire, mastodon, isis and the like)
  • bluegrass (somewhat different to 'alt.' country, no?)
  • dancehall (even the stuff with the homophobic lyrics. we just pretend we didn't hear those bits)

in the 'bad' list:

  • dadhouse (all dance music aimed at dinner parties & older coke heads - essentially 'deep' house and 'tech' house, and quite a bit of that serious new york shit)
  • EBM (in fact, pretty much anything which passes for industrial music since the rise of nine inch nails)

other than that, it's mostly been covered...

  • i don't mind a bit of deep house and i used to listen to a lot of nuphonic-type stuff too, but i'm not gonna kick up a fuss and defend it, because it can be *very* dull and insipid.

you're a fucking newbie anyway - as if we'd pay any attention to an objection from you...
