Elon Musk is a fucking psycho much worse, much richer, and much more powerful than the typical shitty head of a large company.

He may have had some redeeming qualities once upon a time but he has absolutely lost the plot - just last week he was going on about how he is supporting far-right parties in Europe as part of a campaign to eradicate the "woke mind virus" to "avenge" the "death" of his "son" - meaning, his trans daughter who is very much alive. He spent hundreds of millions of dollars helping Trump get elected and as of Monday, he'll have a huge amount of influence on the new administration's policies.

He's already massively influential with the US government, in large part due to SpaceX and its multibillion-dollar contracts with NASA and the Pentagon, so I don't give much of a shit about the SpaceX employees who choose to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the bigger picture, I hope whatever went wrong with Starship this time turns out to be a flaw so unfixable that the project is scrapped and NASA has to turn to an alternative not owned by a deranged white supremacist who thinks he might be living in the Matrix.

I think maintaining a conspiracy of silence among thousands of SpaceX, NASA, and FAA employees - and creating a CGI illusion good enough to fool the crowds who gather to watch SpaceX launches close up - would be a lot more difficult and expensive than building a spacecraft

Not sure if serious. The whole factory and launch site is next to a public road. Thousands of people drive down there and take millions of photos and videos of the rockets under construction, being moved to the pad, being tested etc. The launches are widely recorded on both sides of the USA/Mexico border.

Of this vehicle, yes. Out of three landing attempts, two were successful and the other was waived off due to damaged sensors on the launch/catch tower. But Falcon 9 has landed hundreds of times (and is likewise very well recorded by 3rd parties). If nothing else, the incredibly high launch rate (134 in 2024) would be impossible if they didn't land and get re-used. There would be a continuous convoy of new rockets from their California factory to the launch sites that would be hard to miss, and they'd need a much bigger building to build that many.

SpaceX's Starlink is trying to exempt itself from a New York law requiring ISPs to offer internet plans starting at $15 per month for low-income residents.

On Wednesday, New York’s Affordable Broadband Act (ABA) went into effect, forcing broadband providers to offer low-income consumers internet plans at $15 for download speeds no lower than 25Mbps and $20 per month for speeds at 200Mbps or greater.

The ABA has a loophole for small internet providers which poor itty-bitty little SpaceX are now claiming they are.
