Ski Resorts in the Summer

Poot

My wife thinks I work too hard
It strikes me that there would be nothing finer than a chalet in a charming village in the mountains in the sunshine. And that is where I would like to be to celebrate my *big* birthday next year.

It's proving decidedly problematic to get a package holiday, and my oh has a fear of holidays that aren't package holidays. There will be 6 of us.

Has anyone ever done this? Austria, Switzerland, I am open to other suggestions too.

Loads of ski resorts make their money in Summer with 'adrenaline' sports; mountain biking, paragliding, hang gliding, climbing etc. There's also obvious stuff like hiking etc. In the French Alps (and others maybe, idk), they've turned a few of the ski jump practice ramps into this kind of thing (Tignes is the main place but there's others, maybe Annecy?):

NB The reason the Alps are so green is that it rains a lot ;)

eta Here a link to stuff in Tignes that gives an idea of the sort of thing: http://www.tignes.net/en/summer-sports/acroland-115.html

Thanks for posting that @sweetFA I've been looking for a stag idea involving mountains and those type of activities - that place looks perfect.

There's a few; have a look at Chamonix, Morzine and Serre Chevalier, they might have what you're looking for too :)

We went to Morzine in July a few years ago- it was ace. We used moremountain to find the chalet- got a catered chalet really close to the centre with a hot tub and amazing views- highly recommend it

When I was 19 or so me and a friend went on a mountainbiking holiday in Serre Chevalier. We Eurocamped and took our own bikes by train down there. The lifts were working and we had some awesome riding but the place was pretty quiet (having never being on a skiing holiday i only guess they are busy in the winter.

We did get left in charge of a bar 1 evening though. We got left in charge of a bar.

Andorra. the city is a shithole, but if you want beautiful scenery and cheap piss, then the lifts are open and the runs are open to bikers and hikers - we spent a day there on the drive to camping on the Costa. I lived in Bavaria for a year( near Bad Reicehnhall/Salzburg ) and the mountains are beautiful in the summer and not as desolate/ full of ironmongery as some of the big french resorts.go for it!
